Hot take but more buses should utilize highways in the Seattle area. There’s no reason the efficiencies offered by I-5 in particular should be so out of reach to non-drivers

This is like 2 blocks north of where I had to carefully navigate out of the protected bike lane onto Roosevelt because of a box truck parked outside that yellow building next to Taste of India last Friday
Seattle Fire also just responded to a driver hitting someone on a bike at 59th and Roosevelt. The person who was hit was transported to the hospital.
Also, before people could stream any audiovisual entertainment they want on television, there was an incentive for linear TV to air programming that could actually appeal to broad audiences.
linear TV was genuinely addictive because of the inability to watch what you want. Inconsistent but paced-out rewards the same as a skinner box. You got a big jackpot dopamine bonanza when your favorite Simpsons episode was randomly on syndication that day or came across an MST3k marathon
Insofar as possible, when I have kids, they’re not going to be allowed to choose what to watch on TV or what music to listen to 24/7 for exactly this reason
It’s hard to explain but tv was better when you couldn’t watch the show you wanted whenever you wanted to watch it and most of the shows were worse and the TVs were worse and the entire experience was worse, that’s when it was better

when people say "do your own research" they generally mean "do not trust anyone with any relevant training or experience"
I'm a full Professor of Immunology and fully vaccinated. I didn't get vaccinated out of obedience, but after decades of studying the immune system and evaluating all evidence. Calling that "lack of critical thinking" is not an argument. It's ideology masked as pretend intellect.

One other contributor to this perception is that many established brands that were synonymous with durability and quality have sold out and totally lowered their standards recently, cashing in on that earned reputation while selling noticeably lower quality items at a premium.
"quality, durable items have disappeared" is just...not true the perceived price delta for them has increased substantially both because of price pressure at the low end (fewer willing to buy top end, each unit gets more expensive) and because, on top of that, labor costs have gone through the roof
Nobody freak out but the Seattle light rail just derailed across the track at the Chinatown International District station.
The mayor trusted SPD do its job communicating promptly re mass shooting, it didn’t, the chief broke the camel’s back w cumulative consequences of absenteeism & inability to perform a basic function of the job, i.e., interacting with the media, she made the correct and quick decision to fire him.
Can we talk about how it’s basically impossible to actually use the secure bike parking at U District station because there are dozens of Lime vehicles blocking the room? I was scuppered by also not having approval to use the room yet (a day later I’m still pending approval) but even if I had it…
It's wild that a whole park can turn into a parking lot immediately without debate but we cant remove one single street parking space for a safe walking/cycling construction detour.
Cars really put the “ing lot” in “parking lot”.
I think people over-estimate the deal you get from going far from Seattle. I’m obviously cherry picking here but these houses are both on ~8000 sqft lots. There is exactly one listing in Cle Elum for under $700k on at least an acre of land, too.
I know several police officers who live in Cle Elum. You can get a house for around $500-600k. You actually have a lot not a postage stamp. They come into Seattle and work a couple of days in a row, sleep on a cot overnight and then go back to Cle Elum.
I mean I don’t necessarily disagree about imbalanced attention, but I do think the reaction also has something to do with the 2 innocent bystanders dying, several people being injured including a toddler, and the initial perception that this might have been a random mass shooting situation.
If every life has equal value, every loss deserves equal mourning. My latest column examines why Seattle rallies after some tragedies but too often looks away when violence strikes Rainier Beach, Hillman City, Brighton, and other South Seattle neighborhoods.
Also crazy but true: Ireland had a President with a degree in history from Trinity College, Cambridge almost 50 years before Britain had a monarch with any degree, but specifically a degree from Trinity College, Cambridge
a fact that is crazy but true is that King Charles III is the first British monarch to earn a university degree
this is a weird coincidence but the area in hectares of the University of Cambridge is the exact area code for Cambridge, MA (617)

Genes are insane. I’ve just seen a photo of one of Princess Anne’s grandchildren and she is literally the spitting image of Prince Philip. What do you mean it’s possible for a girl to randomly look like a clone of her paternal great grandfather of all people.
Driving back to Seattle from Chelan you go through towns named Monitor, Index, Startup…you can really feel this region’s heritage in these place names (inventing the Windows OS)
I'm at Seattle Center listening to the acting chief of SPD. Current status: 7 confirmed casualties 3 confirmed fatalities 2 weapons recovered so far 1 shooter in custody, 1 outstanding, shooting at each other No description for the 2nd suspect 206-333-5000 - currently searching for witnesses
Ok fun fact that I know from doing STP: there IS a WSU facility in Puyallup, and the sign for it and the Cougs flags on the side of the road always throw me off and are a harbinger of The Hill
"is Central Washington University in Puyallup?" - questions asked by the utterly deranged

When did the modal response to not understanding a concept shift from “I don’t understand this thing” to “nobody ever told me or explained this thing to me”. Why do you expect to be a passive actor in the experience of knowledge acquisition.
Nobody ever explained to me what a passkey is or how they work. Websites just started asking me for passkeys like it's something we talked about.
replies and quotes full of people bragging about ignorance and a lack of curiosity, embarrassing as hell
