Tree Action Seattle, a sponsored organization of the Seattle Parks Foundation - a 501(c)3 org - put up an Instagram post last night promoting candidates who had been endorsed by TreePAC. I do not believe that little disclaimer at the bottom is going to cut it here.

West Seattle. I whine about transit and biking issues and take photos of bugs and mushrooms. Views expressed are my own.
Cold urbanist take: ban right turns on red lights Hot urbanist take: ban left turns on unprotected greens
I have, with my own eyes, watched my tax dollars in the form of missiles as they hit buildings inhabited by civilians. I'd much prefer subsidizing a grocery story I don't use.
Opinion: Mamdani's idea may sound appealing, but it's NYC taxpayers who will take the hit, subsidizing discounts they may never even use.
New bike day! Basically the minivan of bikes. First ride was great! I'm wondering, how safe would it be to lock this thing up outside a light rail station as-is with a 14mm chain lock? I usually don't park bikes out of sight but I want to take my daughter on a light rail adventure from downtown.
Seattle Mayor Katie Wilson has signed the SEPA reform bill into law.
A 5-4 Seattle City Council vote yesterday means city-level appeals that have delayed significant citywide zoning changes in the past will be extinguished. Conventional appeal options to Superior Court or the state growth hearings board will remain. Story: www.theurbanist.org/seattle-coun...
I love these seasonal shade canopies at Point Defiance Zoo. They're both in animal enclosures like the polar bear exhibit here as well as some visitor spaces for people to sit in the shade. Imagine this over playground equipment to block the heat and rain. Cool or dry places to sit in parks.
I was talking to my neighbor when a group of cyclists came by at maybe 25 mph. “That’s so dangerous,” she exclaimed. In the meantime, quite a few drivers came by at 40 mph, and she’s completely unfazed. 🤦🏻♂️
For the past week, when riding on streets that should have bike lanes but don't (like California Ave, Alaska, Fauntleroy, Sylvan, etc.), I've been jumping to the front of traffic at lights and taking the lane without a care in the world about what's behind me. I've felt safer than I've ever been.
Being an absolute menace on the bike ride to the farmer's market.

anyone know where these slides come from? they are so good (posted on TUMI's insta)
Why are City Council, SDOT, and WSDOT recognizing the NIMBY organization Fauntleroy Community Association as the host/moderator/organizer/whatever for official discussions around safe streets and the cycling infrastructure that FCA opposes? westseattleblog.com/2026/07/save...
SAVE THE DATE: Fauntleroy bicycling-safety meeting set for August 11

It’s time for the Seattle Parks Department to move into the 21st Century: build and preserve places for people, not cars.
I hope this is the last year we allow Genesee Park to be used as a parking lot for Seafair. It creates a large barren space that degrades the park year round.
Remove parking on one side of Delridge, 35th, and California and we could have this in West Seattle next week
Eugene, Oregon has some pretty good bike infrastructure, pretty, pretty good.
Woodland Park Zoo closed all day on a Saturday for a day-drinking event. This zoo has pretty frequent 21+ closures for alcohol events. As a non-drinker and a parent I find this pretty frustrating. I don't understand the connection between zoo animals and getting drunk.
It's wild that a whole park can turn into a parking lot immediately without debate but we cant remove one single street parking space for a safe walking/cycling construction detour.
Cars really put the “ing lot” in “parking lot”.
six lanes of pristine asphalt for cars. one lane of shitty asphalt for bikes. these bumps have been here for years
Jesus Christ the DIRECTOR of OPCD is AT THIS EVENT that’s circumventing state law?! Sound the alarm @mayor.seattle.gov @jessdbateman.bsky.social
Now Rico Quirindongo is being pulled from the audience to answer questions.
Once again, visually confirmed today that 80% of cars are single occupants on this 3+ HOV exit… this really slows down buses… will @wsdot.wa.gov or @transportation.seattle.gov do anything to make this a bus-only exit?
We spent almost half a billion dollars to build the Montlake lid with elaborate HOV exits/entrances, and the buses are still stuck in traffic…

Having worked in the Seattle mayor's office (2011-13), one thing is absolutely clear. A corporate establishment mayor is playing the game on beginner difficulty mode. A progressive mayor plays the same game on extreme difficulty mode. The rules and expectations are just totally different.
Finally got around to clearing the sidewalk connecting Delridge to Puget Ridge. SDOT will not clear overgrown sidewalks. It's very frustrating. Only got half of it though, I only have one battery and extras are crazy expensive. My taxes pay for driving but not walking. Walking is premium.
I do not regret to inform you that we are building a more sustainable, equitable, and thriving city.

@moreperfectunion.bsky.social did an investigation into this and found that private grocery stores sold staple foods as loss leaders to draw in people from the base stores. Stuff like milk and eggs. Being near a military base doesn't seem to harm local grocery stores. youtu.be/PQOXdtPBGXI?...
We Found The Radical Solution To Skyrocketing Grocery Prices

My understanding is that running a grocery store is a low-margin enterprise and there's not much wiggle room to cut prices. So a public option that undercuts existing stores on price via subsidy seems like it will drive nearby shops out of business. Not great.
My son and I were harassed by a couple of guys in a small SUV this morning. They honked loudly when a car in front of them stopped to let us cross 3rd at 83rd, then turned to follow us up the tiny street demanding that we "share the road." License plate: CHRYBRU
The fundamental lie about gun rights is that we need guns to protect us from the government. American culture fetishizes and enables shooting our peers. There's never a "good guy with a gun." Groups that actually use 2A as intended like the Black Panthers are the only time gun control happens.
The gun industry will tell you that guns make us safer. No one in Seattle was made to feel safer yesterday. Victims of domestic violence do not feel safer when their abuser has a gun. Parents in neighborhoods with high rates of gun violence do not get to feel better about their children’s safety. 1/
Absolutely. And calling them accidents makes it seem like an inevitability. Someone gets stabbed, shot, hit by a train, falls, dies in a plane crash, etc. and we collectively mourn the tragedy and demand change. Someone gets killed by a car and we treat it as just something that happens.
Something you notice when you read a lot of stories about traffic violence is how often a witness will talk about the fact that a particular road has seen a lot of crashes or speeding. We know some streets are particularly dangerous and yet no action is taken. That's why these are not accidents.
I biked and drove yesterday, and I’m more convinced than ever that driver’s licenses should be renewed annually with a driving test.
