I really need more people to be concerned about enslavement
Adapting to public pushback, the Trump administration is pivoting to expand immigration detention bedspace nationwide.
I've had a bit of a day, so let's do a little #WorldBuildingThread as a treat. Tonight's topic: every-day carry mending kit. Unsurprisingly, I have several of these, because different "every day" situations may require different things, but these 2 are my actual honest-to-goodness everyday carries.
i used to be an ai researcher and much of my career was running experiments to see if new models could do things better than existing models (whether ai or not). usually they couldnt what changed with the current hype bubble is companies stopped asking if ai works and started declaring that it must
PSA, for real: if you have a back-up camera in your car, you still need to check your mirrors and pay attention, so you don’t back into parked cars. If the other driver had remembered this, my day would have been way less stressful! (I’m ok, car is drivable & can be fixed, but hassles+heat=bad.)
This Day in Labor History: August 3, 1931. The Unemployed Council in Chicago led black residents in protecting the furniture of a 72 year old resident of South Side being evicted from her home The cops responded by firing into the crowd, killing 3 people. Let's talk organizing around black tenancy!
Trump sued Capital One to prove they closed his accounts over politics. The bank’s answer, filed Friday: it was the anti-money-laundering desk. Months of review. Three hundred accounts. He pulled that thread himself.
Wow. Sitting in a street-fair tent all day in the heat sure is physically draining, but I feel emotionally great, so……fair trade?
Yes! This is a big one - where are they!!! Personally it’s very simple, and involves my genealogy and two generations of adoptions. My great-grandmother was adopted, and so was her mother. I would LOVE to untangle that!
What's your personal great white whale of an unsolved mystery? The thing you desperately hope is solved before you die because you need to know the answer? Mine is the Isabella Stewart Gardener Museum heist. Where the hell are the Rembrandts. I need the full story
Of course it is. Of course that’s his plan. The depth of my swearing at this extremely obvious BS is deep AF, off the f’ing charts.
U.S. and Hamas have come to terms with a peace agreement! The agreement calls for Israel relinquishing its rights to the GAZA strip to U.S. And there you have it, the real reason! Trump gets total control over GAZA, which will become Trump's strip #Trump #POTUS www.wsj.com/world/middle...
Congrats on getting Hamas to say “okay fine, we’ll disarm after Israel totally withdraws” and Israel to say “okay fine, we’ll withdraw after Hamas totally disarms.” No one’s accomplished that before, better make it the top headline.
I don’t make the rules, the white hibiscus makes the rules.
When my white hibiscus blooms, it means it’s time to start writing your fall syllabi. I’m sorry, I don’t make the rules. Beauty hurts.
Dear various anonymous texting pollsters: I’m not texting you who I’m voting for, what I object to, or where I’ll be on a given day. Stop trying to neg me into handing you data.
Yowza. The humidity between the rainstorms is THICK. And it’s all landing in my head.
I was taught in 11th grade civics in a hot Texas classroom that all in the USA had due process. That it was what set us apart from other countries. ALL. It was a question on our test ... do non US citizens have a right to due process in the USA? It's murder. How the mighty have fallen.
Dear #knitting folks: I messed up this black lace work a couple rows back. Please explain to me how it’s a Bad Idea to cut the black yarn before the knotted open-work, tie in the red carpet thread, & work the cut yarn back to create a safety line before trying again.
dear god, hearing the way some people have just completely integrating AI shit into their everyday lives is so sad and embarrassing and alienating. you motherfuckers have me on the verge of believing in the existence of the human soul. awful
I am daily filled with gratitude for everyone who helped me walk through the valley of death that was breast cancer. And also, the scar tissue pulls uncomfortably tight if I’m the least bit active; 10 minutes of weeding means a day of discomfort. Both things are true.
This is BEGGING to be a Murderous Ghosts location.
You want some creepy "back rooms?" Here's a video I posted 19 years ago about the labyrinthine layout of Hatcher Library at UMICH. No joke -- there are rooms where they have arrows painted on the floor to help you find your way out. www.youtube.com/watch?v=UVET...
Having just finished Ms. Barker's "The Silence of the Girls," I hope very very much that Ms. Thompson pulls this off!!
While we are in this Greek Mythology moment, may I remind you that Emma Thompson is adapting Pat Barker’s take on The Iliad, and she’s struggled to get it made bc the focus on what acts of war against women and survival thereafter actually look like (the core of Barker’s narrative) is too intense.
Scylla and Charybdis are a washout and an active construction site where traffic has to take turns on the single lane.
Odyssey sequel that takes place in Ithaca New York in 1997 and all the Greek gods are still around but significantly more tired. The movie is about a guy going home from work and it takes an extra 10 minutes due to the gods not really being into it. He barely even notices the inconvenience.
I did not sleep well at all, so now I feel like everything is terrible and nothing is good. Prove me wrong. What’s any good/nice/positive thing from the last few days in your world?
We, Latinos, are not your enemy. We pick your grapes for your wine. We pick your tomatoes for your Sunday gravy. We pick your potatoes for your stew. We pick your lettuce for your salad. We pick your … so on and so forth. We feed you.
