Books and spiders, books and spiders and occasionally IT/dev as it's my day job. Missouri, USA

One of my favorite tarantula species--phormictopus auratus--right after a molt. She's a sassy lady, always investigating and making a mess, but she's absolutely gorgeous!

A golden tarantula sitting on a molt mat, which is a bed of her own webbing that she laid down right before molting a few days ago.

Here is Graham gloating about "killing all the right people." Just in case you see anyone try to do the whole "we should have decency for the dead" nonsense.

Woke up to pee, saw Lindsey Graham died, immediately jumped on Bluesky to see the good posting. Have fun, everyone, but please steer away from the homophobia. Maybe this dude would have been less of a massive piece of shit if he hadn’t been steeped in self-loathing. Dunk responsibly

So I bought a male poecilotheria striata three years ago. I've been waiting for him to mature and not really paying attention too hard other than "Is he eating and healthy". He molted today and after seeing his distinctly FEMALE ventral side, I pulled his molt and OMG I have a girl! #tarantula

I have two kinds of kids that only reveal their differences when I am discussing wills, insurance policies, etc. Type 1: OMG mom I do NOT want to discuss this or even think about this! How morbid! Type 2: I would like your computer. And your car. Oh, and your books.

People who can remember what fiscal period your company is currently in, what is your secret? Do you take some sort of mind-altering substances? Have you had to sacrifice other bits of mental functionality in order to internalize this?

I found this recluse a year and a half ago in my house and held on to her to release her in the summer. I forgot to do that so I overwintered her again. Now she's a part of the family, so I guess she's yet another foster fail. (Yep, she's missing two legs. I found her that way.) #spider

A brown recluse spider as seen from the side. She has only 6 legs as she is missing her second right leg and her third left leg. This photo shows the missing leg socket, the violin shape, the characteristic 6 eyes arranged in a row around the front of her carapace and a fat, fat abdomen because she's a healthy eater. Her body is a smooth tan color and her light brown legs have fine setae covering them.

I have a plant manager who sets up meetings to discuss ideas and then forgets to attend the meetings. In other words, I have a free hour right now! Gonna feed some spiders while "waiting" for her to remember. Here's a picture of my phormictopus sp. South Hispaniola's tiny tarantula Mohawk.

A side view of just the top part of the carapace of a brown, rose and black tarantula. it shows 4 of her eyes and tiny little setae (or hairs) poking up haphazardly from between her eye sets.

A lot of high-minded theories about what's animating the Trump administration to do the things it does and what that might mean for the near future. But I think "how would the Bluth family from Arrested Development deal with this" is probably a pretty predictive rubric

I was just talking to a newly emerged black soldier fly (as one does), while transfering them to the breeding container. "Hey there! welcome to fly mode! Would you like to go into the fly chamber to have some amazing fly sex?" I didn't know my daughter had friends over. (Yes, she has a therapist.)

The cutest little ceratogyrus meridionalis spiderling you will see today! #tarantula For scale, the round rim this spider is standing on is a tiny tattoo cup, pictured between my finger and thumb in the second picture.

A very small fuzzy brown tarantula standing on some webbing that covers a tattoo cup water dish, soem dirt, some sphagnum moss and plants. The spider is seen from the side. A tiny tattoo cup held up by my finger and thumb. The cup can hold approximately 12 drops of water.

It’s fine not to like writing. It’s fine not to be good at writing. There are plenty of other things to enjoy and to excel at. No need to pretend you can do it by using A.I.

Somewhere inside this pile of floof is a mastermind of chaos and destruction. Garbanzo Elizabeth Bean charging her battery in preparation for her next mission of mischief.

A fluffy black and white cat lying on her back, pink nose and paws in the air. Despite being brushed every single day, her fur sticks up in random tufts much like a well loved stuffie. She looks innocent but is not.

I've been feeling too sick the last few years to properly garden, but my lovely daughter came over and planted! Volunteers from years past are sage, oregano, rue, chives, fennel and, of course, a load of mint. She's added basil, cilantro, serranos, habeneros, tomatoes and eggplant. Luckiest mom!

This is Gertrude. In her 3 years in our home she has only ever known soft touches, gentle words, love and treats. Despite this, Gertrude weighs each potential interaction against her unshakeable conviction that we are merely biding our time and are, in fact, plotting to destroy her.

In three days my 20 year old has worked two shifts, helped a friend move, driven 5 hours to Chicago to see a concert, and is currently driving back just in time to pack up for camping this weekend in Arkansas. I remember having energy once.
