Join us Dec 8 for "Catching the Scent." Discover how Ralstonia bacteria transition from soil to plant xylem and the surprising role of a newly identified sensor-regulator protein. FREE for members. Only $49 for nonmembers. https://bit.ly/3WqLF2p #plantpathology #plantscience
Happy to share the first paper from my lab! We wrote a review on bacterial plant pathogen evolution 🧫 🌱 www.sciencedirect.com/science/arti... @microsky.bsky.social @plantsky.bsky.social
From genes to epidemics: Genomic insights into bacterial plant pathogen emergence

Dan from my lab presented his work on Pseudomonas phage that has an intriguing role in virulence. #planthealth2025 #proudPI
Daniel Maddock (@michhulin.bsky.social’s group) investigates prophage carrying a key effector protein that enables Pseudomonas bacteria to infect cherry trees. Deleting the whole prophage reduces virulence of the bacterium on the plant (leaf and woody tissue) 🍒 #PlantHealth2025
We’re in Hawaii! Looking forward to APS #planthealth2025. Come see Dan’s talk on Pseudomonas phages in the tree disease section on Monday! 🌺
I had the pleasure of mentoring REU student Lauren for a project this summer on P. syringae! Thanks for being part of the lab and the lovely parting gift @microsky.bsky.social @plantsky.bsky.social
Getting #ISMPMI2025 FOMO, but glad to see updates on @bsky.app 🦋. Looking forward to my first APS this year instead!
1/🚨 New preprint alert! Can mutualists and pathogens co-colonise the same living plant cell and what does that do to the plant membranes that surround these microbes?
New from the Carter Lab! Led by @bhuwanabbot.bsky.social, we sequenced almost twice as many complete genomes as were available for the endofungal Mycetohabitans genus. Unsurprisingly, they are a little weird, giving us insight into endosymbiotic genome changes 🧬 🦠 www.biorxiv.org/content/10.1...

A packed day of #plantpathology with a team break for Spartan Swirl ice cream at the MSU dairy store! @bijarniya0408.bsky.social
One of the favourite parts of my job is sampling season! 🌸🧫🧬 A fun lab activity in the sunshine #microsky #plantsky @bijarniya0408.bsky.social
Our first undergraduate Brooke that joined the lab presented at @michiganstateu.bsky.social UUARF today! She cloned a transcription factor and has started to characterise its effects in Pseudomonas syringae 🌱🧫 #microsky #plantscience
The lab had a great time at @msuscifest.bsky.social today presenting Pseudomonas plant pathogens, including ice nucleation and fluorescent bacteria! 🧫🍀 @bijarniya0408.bsky.social
Had a blast visiting University of Utah! Thanks for the invitation Effie Symeonidi 🤩
Lab ready to go with FFA Open House, excited to share our research with high schoolers interested in agricultural science 🧬 🌱 @michiganstateu.bsky.social
It was great hosting @michhulin.bsky.social to hear about her lab's work on prophages in Pseudomonas syringae!
I had a wonderful visit to Penn State! Thanks for the invitation @hockettlab.bsky.social
It was wonderful to have @vadillodieguez.bsky.social join my lab for a few months! Proud of all you have achieved - which was a huge amount in just 3 months! 🤩 Thanks for @bspp.bsky.social funding 🌱🧬 #womaninstem

Conserved effectors underpin the virulence of liverwort-isolated Pseudomonas in divergent plants
Plant pathogenic Pseudomonas species naturally antagonize a diverse range of flowering plants. While emerging research demonstrates that isolates belonging to the P. syringae species complex colonize ...

Check out this awesome work led by @philcarella.bsky.social group identifying pseudomonas pathogens of liverworts 🤩#plantscience
New Preprint! We identified Pseudomonas in wild liverworts and explored what makes them virulent. www.biorxiv.org/content/10.1...
Home-made magnetic stand seems to be doing the job 🧲🧬#newPI
Gave one of the last lectures in my MPMI 🌱 class today, specifically on applications of molecular plant pathology. It was fun to nerd out about how far technologies have come in the last few years 🤩🧬. Such an exciting time to be working/studying!

New pre-print from the group 🥳 We use targeted genome mining to show that the plant pathogen Rhodococcus fascians makes the antibiotic lydiamycin. The BGC information then informed the discovery of multiple key features relating to the molecule 1/4 #biosynthesis www.biorxiv.org/cgi/content/...
#NewPI achievement of the day was getting my strain import permit approved! Exciting times for our bacteriology lab ahead 🧫🦠🧬
