Been having hearing trouble. Went to audiologist. Turns out I can’t hear the sounds f,s, or th. Turns out I need hearing aids. Turns out I’m getting older. Turns out a decade working on a flight deck does things to your hearing. But hoo boy the adrenaline rush. Worth it.

Reading about people harassing wildland firefighters by calling them arsonists - while they’re fighting a fire and trying to save a town from a burn over - might be the thing that makes me lose faith in humanity.

"As millions of acres burn across the western United States, some wildland fire veterans are fearful that aggressive fire suppression tactics ordered by the Trump administration — coupled with extreme, fast-moving blazes — could put firefighters in danger as conditions escalate" From Alex Brown:

On the heels of the arson arrest in Spokane I saw a video that purports to show someone setting a fire in a dumpster in Spokane yesterday. Can anyone confirm that? I Just can’t with these people.

Spokane is now among the growing list of western communities to experience a major urban conflagration initiated by wildfire. Almost everyone there will have a direct connection to this devastation. www.spokesman.com/stories/2026...

A dangerous wind shift (visible on radar imagery) has just occurred in #Spokane, WA, where major wildfire disaster is currently unfolding. Three separate major fires (circled) near or within city limits have already caused major structure loss & chaotic, expanding evacs. #WAwx

Wow. Watching the videos on local news of people’s houses burning in neighborhoods is so sad. No fire trucks either. I imagine there just aren’t the resources to deploy. It’s a really sad day.

Here's the official map of the GO NOW evacuation area on the east side of the river for the combined threat of the new Meadowview fire in this neighborhood and the Autumn Lane fire across the river (which likely caused the Meadowview fire #Spokane)

NEW FIRE #Spokane Sometimes I HATE being right... EVACUATIONS In progress in the Suncrest area for the Meadowview Fire, directly across the river from the Autumn Lane Fire Just as I mentioned an hour ago in this post 👇

We're up to four fires in #Spokane area though if I had time & energy I'd argue #2 is likely a spot of #1 and #4 is almost certainly a spot of the #3. Regardless of how we count, two fires have crossed the river. This is an absolute hellscape. Spokane *city* is burning.

Recent perimeter for the Old Trails #SpokaneFire. Please note that just because a building is inside the fire perimeter doesn't mean it has burned. This perimeter doesn't account for structure protection efforts. (official perimeter data, map by me)
