#AwesomeCharacters from #PoweredNovel Emma goes to Spirit Halloween and gets something quick & generic. Lupe's too concerned with where they're going to sleep & how they're going to eat to bother. Ambrose is always in costume so he would either go As Himself or knit himself a Cthulhu costume.
Tell me about your #AwesomeCharacters Halloween approaches! How would they costume prep? Has your character had their costume planned for months? Are they buying it off the rack? Are they throwing something on last minute and calling it a costume? 🎃 #WriteSky #WritingCommunity #WritingPrompts
sometimes you have to write the scene wrong a couple times before you get it right. a little "he would not fucking say that" about your own characters is good for you once in a while
Anyone need a genuinely *nice* story for this Wednesday? "Takahashi thought the lost barrel might be adrift somewhere on the Bering Sea by now. Or, he imagined an 'Alaskan bear wearing my down jacket or like, playing my flute...'"
B.C. man reunited with beloved flute, 5 years after it floated away down a Yukon river | CBC News
Jun Takahashi was stunned when he saw the online post: someone in the Yukon bush had found a canoe barrel full of his mildew-y camping gear, and his long-lost flute.

Dr. Emma Wan from #PoweredNovel is a diesel locomotive. She will go forever on almost no fuel, dragging 8 million pounds of bullshit behind her, and god help anybody who gets in her way.

Reeeaaaally depends on the work. For some of them it's the keyword of the story (e.g., "Powered"). For others, it's some phrase that popped into my head that has thematic significance and a lyrical rhythm (e.g., "Murder with the Devil and Friends")
How do you go about titling your works? Is it a line? A format you like? Etc #WritingPrompt
me during the week: oh boy! i can't wait for the weekend so i can really focus on my projects! me during the weekend: don't wanna
The best piece of writing advice I ever got (in terms of immediate and profound effect on my writing) was from a Stage Combat workshop: "A fight is a dialogue. Each move should say something about the character making it. Every exchange should add depth to their relationship."
So grateful that I first published with @duckprintspress.com! They treat us authors SO right in a world full of people trying to take advantage!
In light of some magazines pulling scummy things on creators lately, I’m doing a little thread on short story rights. I don't want anybody getting taken advantage of. Also, if you're new, this stuff can be confusing!

It's World Homeless Day, and I'll just say: Homelessness isn't some great unsolvable mystery. People are homeless because they don't have homes. This suffering persists not for lack of solutions, but because enormous wealth and power are invested in maintaining the very structures that produce it.

she said "you can do anything in fiction as long as the situation afterwards is more interesting that the situation before." since then i have been keeping an eye on character death in fiction. many writers seem to think that character death "raises the stakes" but actually just makes things boring
sometimes you just have A Moment where your inner monologue forgets Show Don't Tell. Literal thought that crossed my mind: "This cup of peppermint tea is making me happy."
you know what would improve this situation? another tattoo.
Dr Delilah Caldwell (of #PoweredNovel) takes no shit. She may, in the moment, *appear* to be taking someone's shit, but you may rest assured that the aforementioned shit is in fact on a ballistic trajectory around the Moon and will be returning to sender with catastrophic momentum #AwesomeCharacters
Tell me about your #AwesomeCharacters Antagonist day! I think even the most evil villains have things people will connect to, either something big or small. What's something you think people will find relatable about your antagonist? #WriteSky #WritingCommunity #WritingPrompts

The Somewhat Wicked Witch of Briggandale by C. M. Waggoner was great fun! It has the spirit of Dealing with Dragons and Pratchett in it
Discoverability for new SFF books seems way down these days, especially outside of bestsellers and certain subgenres. I'm noticing this as both a reader and a writer. Great stuff is in danger of sinking without a trace. Please post about new/recent books you love or are excited for!!! I'll start:
