Third-party demand response provider Voltus and nonprofit Mission:data say utility barriers to accessing smart meter data are blocking gigawatts of grid relief in PJM, the biggest U.S. energy market — and they're asking regulators to step in: www.canarymedia.com/articles/uti... #energysky

Utilities aren’t sharing smart meter data in PJM. That’s a problem.

Minnesota utility Xcel Energy says it can build more effective virtual power plants by owning and controlling its own batteries. But solar groups, consumer advocates and state agencies think customer solar and batteries are a faster and cheaper path: www.canarymedia.com/articles/vir... #energysky

Why Xcel’s bid to reinvent the virtual power plant is so controversial

Most VPPs rely on customers’ solar and batteries. Xcel says its utility-owned alternative can do a better job in Minnesota — but critics question the cost.

Next time someone tells you renewables will beat gas on economics to justify deregulating everything, maybe consider that even wildly uneconomic coal plants continue to run and pollute, and coal pollution may well go up not down due to bonkers state intervention.

In April, Spain and Portugal suffered Europe's worst blackout in 20 years. Now, 5 months later, an expert panel has released a report on the blackout. In the meantime, opportunists filled the information void, blaming renewables without evidence. The misinfo stuck, @juliaradio.bsky.social reports.

After Spain's blackout, critics blamed renewable energy. It's part of a bigger attack

When millions lost power in Spain and Portugal this spring, some were quick to blame too much solar and wind power. That wasn't the cause, but the misinformation had an impact.
