It’s weird seeing pictures of Koopa now because he looks like such an old man to me, and it feels like something in the past

Beast of Reincarnation Review - An Action RPG With Good Ideas That Don't Fully Bloom
Beast of Reincarnation is an action RPG that has some great ideas blossoming here and there, but they can be hard to spot among the weeds.

Spider-Man: Brand New Day has just swung a spectacular $927 million debut at the global box office, second only to Avengers: Endgame in the all-time opening weekend rankings. Read more. 👉 www.empireonline.com/movies...
Can you point me to what you read about this - or better yet, explain in your own words - because I read Angela Davis’s Are Prisons Obsolete? and it notably sidestepped the issue
I felt that way but then I educated myself as to what prison abolition is. It doesn’t involve dangerous people roaming the streets. I recommend curiosity.
I don’t think the guy who broke state law at the time to marry gay people is a likely choice for the GOP nomination. You clearly don’t know many republicans.
Once again think this guy has a better shot at the GOP nomination than the Dem one and I think he also knows that.

People say that the tech industry is evil, but I basically believe that the powers at entertainment industries are like 100x more evil and people defend them because they've been brainwashed by their accrued social capital.
If there's any organization who'd purposefully burn books so people can't access them it is probably the publishers and the writer's guild. The last time evil tech-bros tried scanning books for public access they freaked the fuck out and forced them to keep them private.
this is like some kind of accident death you could orchestrate in a hitman game
wow 30 Rock season two is chock full of jokes that would… NEVER… fly today
i know everyone has been dying for my take on emily wilson's review of nolan's odyssey and so here it is. it should be an embarrassment to whoever edited it. when a writer files copy like that, you should know how controversial it will be and go above and beyond to help them shore up their take.
One of the best essays I’ve ever read on criticism is Caroline Seide’s piece for The AV Club about Return of the Jedi: www.avclub.com/if-you-like-...
If you like Return Of The Jedi but hate the Ewoks, you understand feminist criticism

Criticism usually is better if you prove that you understood what you were watching, however. Trying to claim that Zendaya’s Athena represented the “black best friend” archetype or that the film never showed the POV of its victims (despite the amazing Hades scene, Circe, the village)…
The oddest thing about the response to this essay is people who say it’s “personal”. You can disagree about some or all of it! I may well be wrong! But it’s not “personal” to analyze a film or other work of art, even negatively. Criticism is more than “Hurray!” or “Hiss!”
The grocery store near me in S Williamsburg shut down, and hearing about the commercial lease terms it’s unsurprising - percentage rent clauses (base rent plus a cut of revenue above a threshold) put them out of business. Perhaps a city-run store could apply pressure on those landlords?
Politics aside, do people believe city-run grocery stores with deeply discounted prices are a good POLICY idea? What are they intended to accomplish, in your view? What problem do they solve? Would you implement them if not running for election? I'm sincerely curious in people's answers here.
One of the Graymatter ingredients is the zombie mushroom from The Last of Us… no thank u!!
Across social media, through paid influencer partnerships, wellness brands are pushing nootropic supplements for ADHD by claiming that stimulant medications like Adderall and Vyvanse cause a host of negative side effects. Specialists say it’s an exploitative, potentially dangerous pitch:
Love when the MTA conductor mumbles and next thing you know you’re on a completely different line and have to take 3 new trains to work
What’s life like for queer and trans people in China? People with darker skin?
Honestly if China was invading that would great. The best railway in the world, Healthcare is affordable, Housing that gets built, 9 of the 10 best Universities in the world, the fastest advancing country... And so much more. While the West decays under billionaires GREED.
My take on today's Odyssey controversy is, with all respect to everyone involved, that plumbers generally shouldn't review movies about plumbing.
hilariously this is just the same criticism of Oppenheimer not showing the perspective of people in Hiroshima
7. The film centers Odysseus's guilt over his war crimes, but never shows us the POV of his victims, and instead glorifies the perpetrator for feeling bad about himself. I found this unsatisfying ethically and worse, imaginatively, because Damon's character is given only one mood (Troubled).
Adaptation and translation are different projects. Wilson's Odyssey captures in modern language the values and preoccupations of dark age Greece. Nolan is viewing the story through a modern lens and with a focus on what the story and how we read it says about us.
very funny that after all the “Emily Wilson is going to longhouse Western Civilization with her woke Odyssey”, Emily Wilson herself is like “yeah, a bit too much ‘healing trauma’ and not enough ‘relishing in the blood of your enemies’ in the new movie”
I’d never call myself an artist because of this, but there is a skill to AI generation that I’ve noticed with work. We have a company mascot and I’m apparently the best person at the company at knowing how to have our mascot appear in different situations but retain its key characteristics lol.
I’m a huge proponent of AI and I work at an AI-first startup, but the sheer number of businesses and events that have started using AI slop posters and promo images is just insane. I think it does expose the fact that a ton of people simply do not have taste or creative sensibilities.
Not to be r/atheism posting on main but religion does seem to be the root of so much evil in the world
Walking out in my neighborhood is making me sad because I’m not getting pulled around by an opinionated 12 pound poodle mix on a leash anymore
Can’t stop thinking about The Odyssey. I absolutely adored the nested storylines, where so often the story was being told by someone new. Such a fun way to nod to the tradition of the poem being spread orally and also do the Nolan thing of playing with the timeline.
