Now here's a post
Meme cut of the Odyssey where every instance of "we have violated/forgotten Zeus's Law" is replaced with "we have lost the mandate of heaven." And Odysseus leaves Ithaca with Penelope to seek out new sources of Baja Blast.
My tween audibly groaned at this, which made me laugh inappropriately in the theater.
I was torn about the Sea Peoples thing. I enjoyed it because I like “the Sea Peoples” as a concept and meme (Sea Peoples innocent; etc.), but it was crammed in very awkwardly and we absolutely did not need Penelope’s (extremely Nolan literalism) “*you* are the People From the Sea!” line.
My 9 year old just begged me to purchase Untitled Goose Game for her. Excellent taste.

This story in the odyssey (which is an unrelated tale sung by a bard at a dinner Odysseus is at) is very funny. Has the male gods laughing at Ares caught in Hephaestus's trap but then joking about how they would probably be willing to endure such humiliation for a night with Aphrodite anyway.
"For instance, the Odyssey is the only surviving Greek literary work from the Archaic Period that describes a marriage between Aphrodite and Hephaistos; every other surviving source from this period takes for granted that Aphrodite is unmarried." I did not know this

Gold armor is the best armor...much better than steel...an rpg trope possibly invented by Homer.
Also the discussion of how Homer was no stranger to the Rule of Cool (honestly I think the Rule of Cool was probably invented by the first person to ever tell a story to another person).
So the "dumb person's idea of a smart person" thing we have been saying all along then?
Jim Cramer just now on Elon Musk and why you should buy SpaceX: “Because our minds are small and his mind is big.”
Oh yeah? Well my factories will be on Europa and will be powered by Nephilim robots.

This is why electing a Black president was such an inflection point. It was the exact opposite of post-racial politics: it was politics where status took on new salience because it became pellucid to cis, straight, white, male Christians that they wouldn't *always* be at the top of the hierarchy.
As women, people of color, LGBTQ+ people, and others made status gains, it provoked a reaction, which then made these questions, which had always been foundational to our politics, salient.
"things are better then they were but could have been even better with different choices" is a hard counterfactual so people just go with "things are worse now" 💀
Dread it. Run from it. Gender arrives all the same.
"Whether we like it or not, the future of jobs lies in largely non-traded, labour absorbing activities such as retail, food services, hospitality, care and other personal services. The Left cannot evade this reality."
