Always baffles me when a more left leaning candidate wins a primary and the center-left freaks out. What’s the point of a coalition if it isn’t broad enough for both types of candidate? El-Sayed can win the seat.

Remember when conservatives told us we couldn’t subsidize electric cars because it would overburden our electric infrastructure? Data centers want 5x more power than Texas has ever provided at peak demand. Now Abbott is scrambling to do damage control. www.tomshardware.com/tech-industr...

Texas slams on the brakes for 1,800 data centers, power grid requirements are five times higher than peak record demand — 474 gigawatts of power requests are now subject to new moratorium

Where will they get all that power?

Win: Buying a battery backup to keep the family NAS running during power outages. Fail: Forgetting to install it before the power company mucks up our power again. Win: Little Bit just wants to spend time outside playing with the hose anyway.

I commented on a r/lawyertalk thread regarding Uber’s strategy at their many rape trials, and now I‘m getting constant reply notifications from other lawyers defending badgering the victims of rape over their sexual histories. Lord, just take me now. I can’t.

Today, August 4, 2026, is the setting of Ray Bradbury’s short story “There Will Come Soft Rains” about a fully automated house continuing on after the family who lived there and the world around it died in a nuclear blast.

I used to read every Important Book and see every Important film. These days, if I wish to experience grim hopelessness, I will simply interact with reality. The truth is, suffering is not the only profound human experience, and I'm tired of the only art that counts being the sad shit.

These days I google the end of every single movie before I watch it to see if it’s sad because I just can’t handle that shit anymore. Happy endings only the real world is sad enough.

There’s a joke in 30 Rock about Jack briefly dating Pizzarina Sbarro, heiress to the Sbarro fortune. A law school friend of my brother’s is marrying the actual, real life heiress to the Sbarro fortune today. He’s attending, and I’m desperate for pics of Pizzarina Sbarro’s wedding.

Our worst fight, the only *mean* fight we’ve ever been in, was a heat wave in September when the AC went out. It happened to be county fair week, and this woman 👏 just 👏 kept 👏 cooking 👏 This was resolved with a hastily purchased window unit for the bedroom. But thing were dicey for a sec there.

We are to the point in summer where making the meal plan for the week is torture, I don’t want to think about anything that creates heat, but also I need to plan and buy food for us to eat.

I can’t wait for the day when “things were different back then” applies to the 90s, because the hell they weren’t. We had “political correctness” and we damned well liked it.

The $50k/$1m Discourse today is pretty weird for me, because I went back to private practice last year, the windfall was greater than $50k, and so far the only practical effect on my life was that I’ve bought an inadvisable number of fountain pens and stationary in the last two months.

Good for him, but this does confirm my belief that the dead-eyed, lifeless smile you see in every other photo / video of him is forced as hell. This is the only picture I’ve ever seen of Mr. Beast where he appeared to be genuinely happy.

MrBeast, a social media star known for his high-stakes competitions, married Thea Booysen on a private island, in an affair that wouldn’t sound out of place in one of his games.

✍️ Megan Rapinoe, writing for Marie Claire “No girl deserves to be discriminated against. That’s why all girls, including trans girls, should be able to play with their classmates in the sports they love… girls who don’t fit someone else’s expectation of femininity, will face further harassment.”

Anti-Trans Legislation Isn't About "Protecting Girls"—It's About Distracting Us From What Matters

"If we really cared about safety and fairness in sports, we’d be breaking down barriers facing girls at every level," writes Megan Rapinoe.
