Nodded off after the first couple of innings. Cubs have increased their lead by a couple while I was sleeping so all is well.

Used to write about the Cubs. Still post about the Cubs, as well as the Hawks and Bears.
Shohei Ohtani and Pete Crow-Armstrong have each hit leadoff home runs to begin the game. It was also each of their 25th home runs of the season.
Cubs expected to return this month: Clay Holmes Daniel Palencia Hoby Milner Edward Cabrera Ethan Roberts plus Matt Shaw Hopefully sometime in September, but can't count on it: Ben Brown Justin Steele Hunter Harvey Shelby Miller Maybe Phil Maton/Gavin Hollowell but neither have begun throwing iirc
Edward Cabrera, Daniel Palencia and Hoby Milner are all scheduled to pitch for Iowa this afternoon. Cubs will basically be getting an additional post-TDL wave of pitching additions soon.

We were due for some luck. The Ole Baltimore Chop gets a run home.
Why the Cubs were willing to trade a bunch of prospects for 4 pitchers at the TDL, in visual form:

#Cubs OF Tyrone Taylor will wear number 55. Last worn by RHP Bryse Wilson earlier this season. RHP Ryan Zeferjahn will wear number 56. Last worn by RHP Vince Velasquez earlier this season.
#Cubs RHP Kevin Gausman will wear number 12. Last worn by INF/OF Scott Kingery earlier this season. RHP Clay Holmes will wear number 25. Last worn by C/DH Moisés Ballesteros earlier this season.
Cubs add a ton of (much needed) pitching depth at the TDL. They still lack an ace. But there was only one available (and of course he went to the Dodgers). Cubs offense has to be their ace. Which it can be. That's how they win Game 1 of a series. They have as good an offense as any team in MLB.
A couple Cubs injury updates: Edward Cabrera will make his next rehab start Wednesday with Triple-A Iowa. Daniel Palencia starts his rehab assignment at Triple A on Wednesday. Hoby Milner will make another rehab outing with Iowa tomorrow. Hunter Harvey threw ‘pen Saturday
The answers: 1) Rafael Palmeiro (71.9 bWAR) 2) Josh Donaldson (46.8) 3) Kerry Wood (27.6) 4) Kris Bryant (27.2) 5) Javier Báez (27.0) Closing in: 6) Ian Happ (24.5) 7) Nico Hoerner (23.5)
I posted it in the discord, but lets have some bluesky fun too. How many of the Top 5 Cubs 1st Rd draft picks by career bWAR can you name?

Brown, Steele and Palencia all back at Wrigley after rehabbing in AZ while Cubs were on the road. Brown is back to daily flat-ground throwing and is pain-free. Steele is scheduled for light bullpen Saturday. Palencia has been back on a mound a couple times already.
A PCA 2 run HR in extra innings works.
Cubs should try getting more than one hit
Skubal should just demand a trade to the Cubs. Best for everyone involved, really.
Tigers had a 7-0 lead when A.J. Hinch made his mound visit with Tarik Skubal after a two-out walk in 7th. Nine batters and two outs later, it's a 7-7 game on Mayo's two-run triple off Drew Anderson.
The aging curve for NHL players puts a player in their prime from roughly age 23-29, with them reaching their offensive peak around 25, and defensive peak around 27. Bedard is 3 seasons from his prime and 5 from his peak. Byram is in his peak the next 3 years and still in his prime the next 5.
Winning is fun Winning big even more fun Winning big over STL the most fun
Cubs are having fun and so am I
