I need *several* emergency reviewers on on mech interp for NLP. I also need emergency reviewers for papers on neuro-symbolic language reasoning, for a paper extracting symbolic structures from text, and for a paper on knowledge collapse in LLMs. Many missing reviews this cycle

I'll be at #ACL2026 starting this afternoon, let me know if you'd like to catch up. Check out all the work to be presented by our students in the next few days ⬇️

Recent earthquakes in northern Venezuela have caused an emergency the country is not equipped to handle. The state has lagged behind and citizens have been self-organizing. @caracaschronicles.tierra-de-gracia.com collected a list of trustworthy organizations to donate to if you are wanting to help:

Welp, doing the AC checklists for ARR was a little depressing. After all the discourse around desk-rejections you'd think authors would double and triple check their references. How can we stop this craziness?

I'll be presenting my student Chloe's @chloenlp.bsky.social work constructing a dataset of YouTube channels and their historical subscribers counts today at ICWSM. 3:30 pm poster session, 4 pm session. We have a pip package! github.com/blast-cu/tub...

Someone should write something more about this because this myth that people are just using models for info retrieval and code generation keeps coming back, fueled by our own discomfort and company reports that omit or downplay erotic usages of chatbots.

Maria Antoniak@mariaa.bsky.social · 3mo ago

There is a *ton* of erotic usage for ChatGPT, plus there are companies that specialize in role play like Character.AI with many, many users. And that’s just text, if we go to images and video... The big companies just don’t like to talk about it.

Computational approaches to media narrative analysis either miss nuanced storytelling patterns through coarse-grained analysis, or require domain-specific taxonomies that limit scalability. We show joint event and character modeling can address this gap. Details in our #ACL2026 (Main) paper. 🧵1/10

Paper Title: A Structured Clustering Approach for Inducing Media Narratives

Authors: Rohan Das, Advait Deshmukh, Alexandria Leto, Zohar Naaman, I-Ta Lee, Maria Leonor Pacheco

The #NLProc reciprocal reviewing policies are killing me as junior faculty with a mid-size group of junior students. At least one of them will submit to every cycle / relevant conference, but most of them are not qualified to review yet, so all of the reviewing burden falls on me 😭

What’s the best way to analyze online discourse on any given topic? Is there a right way to use NLP tools to sift through massive datasets? To find out, we tested several tools across different collaboration settings and report findings in an #ACL2026 (Main) paper: arxiv.org/abs/2408.09030 🧵1/7

Paper Title: Effects of Collaboration on the Performance of Interactive Theme Discovery Systems

Authors: Alvin Po-Chun Chen, Rohan Das, Dananjay Srinivas, Alexandra Barry, Maksim Seniw, Maria Leonor Pacheco

The paper acceptance notifications will be out by the 6th of April, AoE. The PCs are working hard throughout the holiday season to finalize the decisions. Apologies for the delay!

Thinking about what makes me so mad about people's takes on Venezuela. Something clicked. It's fucking dehumanizing. All your takes on oil, international law, Trump. And our people? Dead, imprisoned, displaced, persecuted, impoverished, silenced. Don't expect us to shed any tears for the dictator.

"For the first time since this tragedy began, it felt like Venezuelans were finally given a voice on the world stage to tell our story without the noise of global electoral politics or distortions of activist ecosystems. Quite simply, our moment to speak."
