Great to hear from Dr Abi @psychedmum.bsky.social on talking to young people about harmful online content "our culture hugely impacts on our perception and expectations of how we should communicate and what we feel are appropriate relationships" www.bps.org.uk/news/welsh-c... #edpsychs

Welsh Chartered psychologist shares top tips for discussing toxic online views with children | BPS

"We all have a role in creating a society and conditions that are optimal for healthy child and brain development," says Dr Abi Wright

I always bear this in mind, as to me it's a key tenet of Educational and Child Psychology. Similar to our family sayings of: "A stitch in time saves nine" and "An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure". Creating meaningful belonging, and "mattering" is so vital. #edpsychs #reflections

I think a massive opportunity for children with additional needs would be to scrap the Friday spelling test. I cannot emphasise the amount of anticipatory anxiety and stress this can cause our children who (in a lot of cases) don’t benefit from it. Often they have memory difficulties. #EdChatIE

I think there can be a bit of a preoccupation with labelling at times (ducks for cover) - esp to the detriment of putting in supports, relationship building &evidence based interventions in place based on the child’s needs as they present. Chdrn exist within systems&they often need change. #edchatie

A real opportunity can present when schools learn how to work flexibly and use SET support in a way that meets the child where they’re at. EG if a child is reluctant to come to school, can they assign someone to be a ‘one good adult’ to build a rapport with them & increase feeling safe. #EdChatIE

#Edchatie meeting this evening starts in less than 2 hours, from 8.30pm to 9.30pm. Organise your mug of tea / glass of wine / dinner and be ready to flex your typing fingers on the topic of additional needs in Irish education. What are the barriers? What are the opportunities? Come have a chat!
