Starting soon at #EGU26! Our session on #VOCs at the Biosphere–Atmosphere Interface (BG1.10) kicks off today with virtual posters (15:12 CEST), followed by orals tomorrow (Wed, 08:30, Room 2.95) and on-site posters Thu (10:45, Hall X1). meetingorganizer.copernicus.org/EGU26/session/56544
Presenting at #EGU26 today 20 years of tree regeneration data from 2,377 plots across Swiss mountain forests show broadleaves are expanding into historically conifer-dominated stands. Poster X1.82, Mon 14:00–18:00. Come argue about what's driving it. doi.org/10.5194/egusphere-egu26-19803

Co-organized a pre-EGU session at WSL today; colleagues from Forest and Soil Ecology presented their EGU talks and posters to each other before Vienna. 4 talks, 8 poster pitches, a full room, and genuinely useful feedback all around. Simple format, zero pressure, maximum value. See you at #EGU26!
Since mid-January, this Orange Pi Zero 3 has been searching for binary radio pulsars in Arecibo data via Einstein@Home. ~42k BOINC credits so far. ARM devices get BRP workunits keeping Arecibo's legacy alive, one work unit at a time. Passively cooled, zero maintenance.
✅ Got PyTorch XPU running on my Intel Arc A770 on Fedora 43. The key missing piece: you need both oneapi-level-zero (loader) AND intel-compute-runtime (driver) from the Fedora repos, plus source oneAPI's setvars.sh before launching Python. #PyTorch #IntelArc #Linux #Fedora #MachineLearning
First influencers bought fake followers, now scientists buy fake citations!
🧪 Research integrity alert: Citation cartels are reportedly using fake author identities to exploit journal fee waivers and manipulate citations, a growing challenge for scholarly publishing. 👉 Read more: cen.acs.org/research-int... #ResearchIntegrity #AcademicPublishing #OpenScience

In a new Science study, researchers train a neural classifier to spot #AI-generated Python functions in over 30 million GitHub commits by 160,097 software developers, tracking how fast, and where, these tools take hold. https://scim.ag/4aeUdAV
Who is using AI to code? Global diffusion and impact of generative AI
Generative coding tools promise big productivity gains, but uneven uptake could widen skill and income gaps. We train a neural classifier to spot AI-generated Python functions in over 30 million GitHu...

Switzerland announces 6 new NCCRs (CHF 98M) while cutting SNSF by CHF 270M (Sept 2025). Austerity dressed up with a ribbon on top (and power concentrated in a handful of research centers).
Federal President Parmelin launches six new National #Centres of Competence in Research in medicine, climate, physics and chemistry. The #Confederation has set aside over CHF 98 million to be spent between now and 2029 and additional funding will be provided by #higher education institutions.

🚗💨 Exhaust gases are no longer the most important emission factor from motor vehicles by far when it comes to particulate matter. This is shown by a large-scale study carried out by TU Graz for the FVV eV. in Germany. www.tugraz.at/en/news/arti...
Tyre and Road Abrasion as the Biggest Source of Particulate Emissions in Road Traffic
TU Graz study shows: Exhaust particles account for less than ten per cent of fine dust emissions from road traffic. Compliance with new air quality limits in 2030 will still be difficult to achieve.

It's frustrating that we are getting technologies that really will transform our lives, and we should be thinking carefully about what that means, but the possibility of thoughtful discussion is being squelched by a stream of soul-crushing visions and wild hyperbole coming from Silicon Valley.
Everything about this might be the saddest thing I’ve ever seen
Co-hosting this session at #EGU2026 and we're looking for YOUR research! 🌱
