Tablets are quickly becoming indispensable behind bars. They give access to books, music, games, etc. But since they haven't been under scrutiny, they've become another way for telecom companies to squeeze money from incarcerated people & their loved ones www.prisonpolicy.org/blog/2024/09...

Here is a somber truth of creative life. If it goes well, people will begin to ask you for things. Each of those things, no matter how kind or flattering or genuine or even beneficial to your own career and finances as well as someone else's, will pull you from your true purpose.

I have been quite vexed by all of this post-election analysis of “shift” that doesn’t report the baseline. Example: Couldn’t this Atlanta outcome be because white Atlantans were already relatively pro-Trump, thus there wasn’t as much *shift* as in other cities and among other groups?

Fantastic news! Embry and I do not always agree—indeed, during law school he was one of my favorite sparring partners—but he is a fair-minded person and delightful friend. I am utterly thrilled to see him on the Eleventh Circuit.

NEWS: Embry Kidd is confirmed to the Eleventh Circuit. Born in 1983, Kidd will be replacing Charles Wilson, the final active Clinton appointee on the court. Wilson was born in 1954 and turned 70 last month.

A small but non-trivial hill I am willing to die on: The abstract of every empirical paper should include the core empirical findings--numbers included! Not "we find police reduce crime," but "we find that a 1% increase in police yields a 0.4% drop in crime." The abstract isn't clickbait.

Excited to finally be here on Bluesky! The other app had become so toxic that I pretty much stopped posting and engaging there altogether. I look forward to hopefully changing that here. First post is this interesting image I shot in Brooklyn yesterday
