My Haitian friend was just fired from his job. "They said I don't have a legal status now." This is likely happening to hundreds of thousands of people across this country today. Sick.

New research on the gender pay gap from ASA member Catherine J. Taylor (UC Santa Barbara) suggests the issue may be rooted less in overt sexism and more in broader cultural assumptions about the value of women's work. @newsweek.com
Researchers changed one detail about a job—then pay expectations fell
Even identical roles drew smaller salary estimates as more women filled them, hinting at a hidden bias shared by all.

Don’t live your life so that when you die people say “oh I was hoping it’d be the other guy, but I’ll take it”
I love going to modern websites. You’ll be looking for a pancake recipe, and then the pancake recipe site will hit you with “by looking at pancake recipes, you have agreed to arbitration”
This morning in Biddeford, Maine, a 26-year-old man said goodbye to his wife and daughter and left for work. Moments later he was dead, shot in the head by ICE agents, the second man ICE has killed in six days. ICE is killing our neighbors. ICE cannot be reformed. Abolish ICE.
Simply being Black in the United States and asserting your humanity in 2026, specifically as a descendant of American Enslavement, is a deeply and profoundly political act.

In rape culture, everything a woman says means yes and nothing she says means no. This seems to assert that though she said not to come over, said no repeatedly, struggled against Platner, an ambiguous prior comment constituted irrevocable consent. Not a shocking breach not to include it.
"she asked for it"
The media’s language in coverage of sexual violence is so wild compared to any other subject matter. Instead of “it rained” they’re like “Several women allege that they received nonconsentual water upon their persons. We interviewed men they know, who confirmed that the women seemed damp.”
