Something tells me Riot (company not the devs) always wanted 2XKO to die. I feel like there may have been some sort of obligation to put the game out when they bought Radiant. They spent a decade putting the game together and it still somehow got put out. A game from a company that famously shitcans
I have seen the 4 most recent fighting game endeavors hit major speedbumps in terms of getting off the ground or currying favor with players and community members. I'm not naming the examples, they're very apparent. As someone who enjoyed this genre for decades, it sucks seeing it like this
See, this is why I think it's VITAL to differentiate the people making the games from the terrible corporate circumstances they're working under. The people actually doing the work are usually the coolest goddamn people you'll ever meet, fully in it for the love of the (video) game.
