I really don't like point cluster maps*, but am making a slippy map that's for something where multiple points at the same location should be visible. Here's one solution (offsetting the points equidistant from the origin), curious how folks feel about it.

Ahoy! I'm visiting Iceland next week for a minute. Would love to hear recommendations for must-sees, must-hikes, must eats, and especially if anyone knows of any Icelandic cartos or artists that might want to meet up!

67 boat strikes 221 people killed EXCLUSIVE: Operation Southern Spear has not reduced the volume, availability, purity or price of cocaine arriving in the U.S., according to an internal DEA assessment and a closed-door Pentagon briefing for senators, and has made enforcement more difficult

67 boat strikes. 221 dead. The cocaine hasn’t slowed, officials report.

The president says Operation Southern Spear has virtually ended drug trafficking by sea. Pentagon and DEA analysts have concluded otherwise.

67 boat strikes, 221 dead. But while the routes have changed, cocaine is still flowing, according to Drug Enforcement Administration assessments. Made a big ol' map showing that change to go with this report by @alexhorton.bsky.social, @terrencemccoy.bsky.social , & Samantha Schmidt.

Every time this goes around I’m stunned that there are still people who’ve never seen it, this performance is to drag what the Mona Lisa is to paintings, but maybe you’ve never seen the Mona Lisa, so today is the day you shall behold it

RIP Bonnie Tyler. And RIP Tandi Iman Dupree. This remains the best stage entrance by a drag queen of all time, even some 25 years later, and the best use of Tyler’s “Holding Out for a Hero” ever. youtu.be/IHQA5vqn6rw?...

May we recommend the return of "hits" as the sole metric for online counting? No more views, likes, or plays. Go ahead, use it in a sentence, it sounds ancient and funny.

I'll bite on this – it's good manners. Makes sure if the map travels people know who and what created it. Same reason folks throw a byline on most news maps, company logo, and cite sources on the maps themselves. Accountability in the chance it's found somewhere other than your blog.

"Drawing election maps is one of many uses of the Census’ race and ethnicity data — but it’s the only function clearly required by law" I lead with this a lot when I talk to people about why we have interesting and rich data and it's very important.

we've watched federal gender identity and sexual orientation data disappear for the past year and a half. in the wake of callais, could race and ethnicity data be next? big ol' story from @almsnatalie.bsky.social www.notus.org/us-news/trum...

I'm ok with Instagram eating Snapchat's lunch and the ease at which you can share pictures there, but every time I interact with their linking-out policies I just want to delete the whole thing. Absolutely asinine roadblocks intentionally designed for inconvenience.
