This. All technological waves are manifestations of the socioeconomic and political systems they inhabit. As long as we are distracted with AI doom marketing and potential job losses, we don't see the unjust power distribution, wealth concentration and democracy erosion the AI wave exacerbates.

Wouldn't it be fun if the main outcome of the AI wave is that we all make our own software using local, open-weight models, thereby ruining the core business of the industry shoving AI down our throats?

By happenstance, I googled a philosophy colleague’s distinctive terminology today to find her papers on it. The first dozen search results were ALL her papers, or citations of them. The AI Overview didn’t mention her once. It falsely attributed her (non-tech) concept to some tech bros at Stanford.

A World Cup game will momentarily be played literally minutes from where I live. It's the closest I've ever been to one. Had it been any other World Cup, I would at least have gone down there to check out the scene from the outside. But the 2026 World Cup has been completely ruined for me.
