Before mechanization, before seafaring, the entire English economy lived and died by textile production. Henry VIII became one of the wealthiest monarchs ever at that time by the dissolution of the monastaries - which were so wealthy because they WERE the English textile industry.

I’m gonna say virtually all authors need to get serious about textiles. Who is weaving them? Out of what? Who’s turning them into clothes and how much does it cost and do you have any idea how HARD all of that was before modern mills

Whelp. Here is another day where I now will be morbidly attached to news posts. Spokane, WA is burning, and burning fast. The evacuation orders have gotten into some deep surburbia. That's not where I'm at, but there's family there.

I have seen "The Odyssey" now. As someone really familiar with that cycle of tales because TRAUMA, I can say it was quite well done. I can also say Nolan's choice to have the dialogue be in plain English means this will be the definitive version shown in 101 classes for decades to come at least.

... really disturbing to be reading the article about yet another officer-related murder, only to have a cop come up my residential street with no siren but lights flashing while I'm reading the article.

Last year, my child was afraid of the fireworks on July 4th. This year, is enthusiastically standing at our window, watching them all, asking about how the explosions work, and yelling, "Happy Birthday, 'Merica!" I don't know why she changed, but it's cute.

1. I planted some tomato starts today, yay me 2. I experienced a moment where I ran away from it because I realized a spider was next to me. ... I'm too old to be a 'Little Miss' anymore, so does this make me a 'Big Mama Muffet'?
