Leaning into the abundance philosophy of life, leadership, and work today: there are ample opportunities and resources for everyone, so we should meet challenges with optimism and generosity. ☀️
In patients needing coagulation factor replacement after cardiac surgery, prothrombin complex concentrate showed superior hemostatic effectiveness and fewer serious adverse events and acute kidney injuries compared to frozen plasma. #ACC25 https://ja.ma/43w3phs
In the API-CAT trial involving patients with active cancer and venous thromboembolism, extended anticoagulation with reduced-dose apixaban was noninferior to full-dose apixaban for preventing recurrent thromboembolic events. Full results: nej.md/41YkRZK #ACC25 | @accintouch.bsky.social
It’s moving to see someone both lead and heal.
At a press conference on Wednesday, Winnipeg police confirmed the identity of Mashkode Bizhiki’ikwe to be Ashlee Shingoose. Ashlee’s father Albert Shingoose had one request for Manitoba Premier Wab Kinew: sing a song.
Hamilton is my hometown, and this message gives me hope. ⚒️
My message to our steel and aluminum workers: you have our full support, now and for the future. We’re going to build big things in Canada, and we need every one of you.
We continue to see legislative efforts to mandate that blood banks/hospitals allow patients to use directed or autologous blood donations without medical indication. These are driven by vaccine-related fears which lack any scientific grounding. This is problematic for multiple reasons… 1/
Utah Republicans push to let patients supply their own blood as vaccine concerns linger
Health care facilities in Utah would be required to let patients bring their own blood or choose their own donor for medical procedures under legislation gaining momentum in Utah

This is a strikingly beautiful and shattering read. “I’ve learned to let the beauty of the world and the bravery of other people pull me up and out of the despair.”
It’s only been three weeks, but already I am exhausted by my own fury. I emailed Kate DiCamillo and asked for help. www.nytimes.com/2025/02/10/o...
I am so damn busy doing the work (& encouraging others to do so, too) … PHEW. Do NOT give up your agency or your hope, my friends. Thanks to all for being in this together. Here’s to the long game. 🙏❤️

U.S. physician colleagues - did you know that Ontario, Canada has 3 expedited pathways to practice in our province? All specialties have needs. We *really* need great family docs! www.cpso.on.ca/Physicians/R...

This isn’t to say that other countries have their own problems, but the way academics, scientists, and journalists will be targeted by the state is going to create a whole group of educated people that will need a home to continue their work.

Excited to speak at the Chicago Highlights of ASH about the intersection btw women’s health and hematology! TY for the opportunity, @ash.hematology.org
From coast to coast, Highlights of ASH attendees are learning the clinical applications of 🔥 new research from #ASH24! It was great seeing many of you in New York and Seattle! Who’s attending Chicago and DC? There’s still time to register: bit.ly/4jbzOPV #Hematology #HemeSky #BloodSky
So much great sickle cell content at #ASH24! (Including the Ham-Wasserman lecture this year!) Well deserved focus on a too often marginalized condition and patient population.
Dinner and then a good sleep to prepare for a busy day at #ASH24 tomorrow! 9:30 am in SDCC Rm 25, kicking off @ash-hematology.bsky.social guidelines sessions with peds VTE update.
LITERALLY RELIEVED. Also, love @altmetric.com showing up with personality on this thread 🤣
BLUESKY MEGA-THREAD Altmetric is thrilled and also LITERALLY RELIEVED to officially announce: We are now tracking research attention as it happens on Bluesky! We have been picking up posts on the site since late Oct. Our team is on Bluesky all day answering questions. Let's get into it!
Manifesting: This is the year I'm actually going to look at all the photos I take of slides at #ASH24.

Compelling. I see this as more than just a political stance (not to minimize the importance of those); pregnant people have the right to participate fully in scientific conferences. How can they feel safe doing so if that means travelling to places that would legally deny them life saving care?
The American Medical Women's Association (AMWA) passed a resolution not to host conferences/meeting in states that have banned/criminalized abortion primarily for that reason.
We *tried* to do a meta-analysis on menstrual bleeding in FXI inhibitor studies - not only is it not an outcome, but hardly any participants were capable of menstruation. We call for action to improve capture of HMB in anticoagulant trials in our latest @jthjournal.bsky.social pub. t.co/c26Y0umzOi

BlueSky feels like Twitter's more mature, responsible but slightly nerdy older brother.
So much to learn at #ASH24. Most excited for the Quality sessions and Classical Heme (aka Benign, aka Systems, aka Non-Malignant Heme) sessions. See you soon, San Diego!

@profmakris.bsky.social, just saw your share from BJH, of cardiac iron accumulation with IV iron (unrelated to ferritin). IV iron is an important tool in our armamentarium. #HemeSky, #CardioSky - anyone studying cardiac outcomes of repeated FCM infusion? onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/epdf/10....
