Book two is harder to write than book one; cause at least with book one you had 0 word count and a dream. Book two you have a previously completed and refined first draft you’re constantly comparing your messy first draft to.

Being on sub is a hell like no other. But hey I’m close to finishing book two.
What I love about the Blood Debts series is that even tho it deals with racism and systemic oppression, and even tho there are white villains, the main heroes and villains are from OUR community. This is very much a story about Black people’s business.
I’m reminded of the people I grew up around that believed 100% of Indigenous folks were eradicated during American colonization. Many probably still believe that to this day. If you’re not making it “cool” rn to learn & read, the kids won’t do it. And this will be what becomes of true history.
Here’s one example:
Have people discussed how rage baity Threads is as an app? Every time I click onto it, there’s someone new folks are mad at, something to cry about, or another current event for my growing list titled “Things That Trigger My Anxiety.” I dunno if it’s the same or worse than Twitter.
Putting spiders on my timeline is an instant block. Sorry. I’m a staunch Arachnophobe.

What’s the scariest thing you can say to an author, and why is it the word “Revisions”?
Let’s be clear: Black queer history IS Black History! Anyone who tells you differently is misinformed. George M. Johnson said, “We are too disconnected from our roots” and they're right. Flamboyants is a great start toward correcting that. (1/3) 💙📚🏳️🌈🚀
It’s sooo fulfilling rereading old drafts and liking most of what you wrote. Like, sometimes I shock myself by what I put down.
Marvel Rivals is very addicting. It’s eating into my writing time 🙊
Opened my manuscript today to do some revisions and immediately clicked off and did something else instead… why am I like this.
Most Black folks knew this nonsense was coming. It's wrong, but we've always had to hustle, so I feel like collectively we'll be all right. But I also can't help thinking that a whole lot of white people, deprived of the "DEI" excuse, are about to get a wake-up call about their own mediocrity.
If there’s a YA adaptation on the horizon, one thing you can guarantee is Amandla Stenberg gone sneak her way in there somehow.

I walked into a bookstore thinking I’d get a book for my brother… almost left with four for me.

Turned 25 today. If I look back on this year it’s been pretty productive, got signed with my literary agent, went to Japan, was in a play, now working on book two. Here’s hoping next year brings a ton of success.
I enjoy the revision process so much more than the initial drafting phase. Like, if I could snap my original idea into existence then spend the rest of the time on execution, and world building, i’d be happy. Am I weird?
Deeply honored to see To a Darker Shore on this list alongside so many books I absolutely loved this year❤️🔥
It's the most wonderful time of the year: time for my Notable YA SFF/H wrap-up! I sifted through more than 300 titles to whittle it down to 40 that stood out to me. reactormag.com/notable-youn...
Didn’t the French riot over a decision like this in 2023? Bet it doesn’t get so much as a temper tantrum in the US. 🫠

The only Disney Princess movie I think needs and would heavily benefit from a remake is the princess and the frog. No shade to the fans.
#Tangled live-action remake is in the works at Disney (via Deadline)
How closely do you guys follow your outlines? Do you ever deviate? I find that I often follow my outlines quite closely until I hit the middle/act 2 and then there’s some major adaptations differences that start seeping in that results in me course correcting.
I’m not afraid to delete and repost a skeet if I see a typo in it.
