Holly Blue Butterfly on a blue Cornflower - this butterfly was flying from flower to flower in our garden on the 30th July 2026.

The deep blue of the Cornflower has heightened the blue on the underwing of the butterfly albeit it is still more silver than blue - it is the upperside of the wing that is a vivid blue.
Unfortunately the butterfly kept its wings closed everytime it landed and I was too slow to capture it in flight.

A Tricolored Heron that has a blue-gray back, purple chest, white belly and neck stripe is walking along the shore. There are some rocks and tan sand in the foreground. The water is blue-green with light shimmering on the surface in the background.
The tricolored Heron is a waiting bird. A medium-sized, delicate and slim heron with a long, daggerlike bill. Its long thin neck curves up to its small head. Larger than a Snowy Egret, smaller than a Great Blue Heron. Forages alone or at the edge of groups of mixed wading birds. Slowly stalks fish or pirouettes with sharp stops and turns with wings flapping. Flies with head drawn in and feet trailing behind. Found in coastal estuaries, saltmarshes, mangroves, and lagoons during the breeding season. Outside of the breeding season they use coastal areas as well as freshwater marshes, lake edges, canals, and ditches.

Photograph taken using a macro setting of my first strawberry of the year. It's not massive or Waitrose-perfect, but it's bright red, probably tastes delicious and I grew it myself.
