The Metropolitan Washington Council of Governments (COG) brings DC/MD/VA leaders together to address regional issues and plan for the future.

As #WeekWithoutDriving comes to a close, keep the momentum going by finding more opportunities to make public transit a part of your everyday life. Every Metro ride is one more chance to leave the car behind and experience how easy it can be to let Metro do the driving instead.

Four images show public transit. Top left: people on escalator in metro station. Top right: Metro train at platform with customers. Bottom left: Metro Bus P31 New Carrollton at stop, people walk by. Bottom right: bus interior with customers seated.

Honored to host the National Capital Region Congressional Delegation at our reception yesterday! U.S. Representatives joined local leaders to discuss regional priorities and the need for collaboration at the local, state, and federal levels.

The leaves are changing, but smart water habits never go out of season. Recent rains have helped improve drought conditions, but portions of the Potomac watershed remain abnormally dry. As we head into fall, continue practicing wise water use year-round. 🍂💧

This World #CarFreeDay, we're partnering with our friends at Metropolitan Washington Council of Governments on their Commuter Connections program, supported by retailers, local businesses, and regional organizations.

Exciting new chapter for COG! Check out our newly renovated office, where we look forward to hosting leaders across the DMV. We were honored to have @mayorbowser.dc.gov and other elected officials, partners, and staff join our ribbon-cutting celebration for this milestone!

Today, we honor the memory of the lives lost on 9/11 as well as the first responders who answered the call, and we are committed to working with our members and partners across the region to remain prepared and vigilant. #NeverForget

When there's a disruption on Metro, getting accurate information to customers is a team effort.   See how Rail, Bus, Police, Power, & Communications teams work together to verify info, coordinate service, & deliver updates in real time via Metro's Integrated Command & Communications Center.

How does the region's unemployment compare to this time last year? What industries saw growth? What about in my jurisdiction specifically? COG's interactive dashboard makes it easy to explore trends in unemployment, inflation, housing production, and more. www.mwcog.org/community/da...

Yard or no yard, you can help. Water plants early and only when needed, or skip washing your car at home and use a car wash that recycles water. Pick one outdoor action this week. 🪴🚘💧#WiseWaterDMV #DroughtWatch

Small changes outside lead to big changes in our water supply. Split screen showing a car at a car wash, someone sweeping their sidewalk instead of using a hose, and plants in a yard.

Choose a few voluntary actions that fit your lifestyle, whether it's taking a shorter shower, turning off the tap when not in use, or watering plants wisely. Small changes across many households and organizations add up during the region's #DroughtWatch. #WiseWaterDMV

Every drop matters. Split images of a mom turning off the faucet as her daughter brushes her teeth and a man fully loading his dishwasher before running it.

While the DMV is still experiencing unhealthy (now Code Red) air, smoke levels are receding, which should continue into the weekend. Tomorrow, the air quality forecast is Code Orange, unhealthy for sensitive groups. Stay informed: www.mwcog.org/aqi

Are you air quality aware? You can always stay informed by checking the current air quality and forecast at mwcog.org/aqi.

Fireworks and summer heat can affect air quality in the region on and around July 4. Check conditions before heading out and take precautions if you are sensitive to smoke or heat. Visit mwcog.org for real-time air quality information for the DC region.

Your drinking water is safe during the Potomac Interceptor repair process. But it’s still a good time to take stock of how much water you have stored in case of emergencies. Experts recommend storing 2 liters per person or pet, per day—for at least 3 days. 💧
