Great thread and also: message folks and let them know when you're behind. Even if/especially if it's indefinitely People don't want to be forgotten about. They don't want to chase you. But having no updates or communication makes them feel really lost. It also makes you think about the commissions

Please, please, this. If you take a commission and do not deliver? THAT IS THEFT. If you cannot actually finish comms? DO NOT TAKE THEM. I know money but like... you do realize if you are taking other people's money in exchange for goods and services you are legally obligated to provide said things.

adding to OP's note: if you're taking on more comms because you're strapped for money, but still owe work, you'll sabotage yourself VERY quickly whatever short-term income you get is not worth the huge hit to your reputation and long-term income ask for donos instead, OR at the very least

It's pretty simple... If you use AI to create art, then you're not an artist. If you use AI to write, then you're not a writer. If you use AI to make music, then you're not a musician. If you use AI to animate, then you're not an animator. If you use AI to make films, then you're not a filmmaker.
