Why not a moratorium on gas-burning power plants instead? If capital wants to build out clean energy, I say we let them. But that's the only energy you're allowed to use.

Dozens of gas-burning power plants are being built across the country, solely to power data centers. These plants could emit as much planet-warming pollution as half of all passenger vehicles in the entire country in a single YEAR. We need a data center moratorium — now.

So this is good and probably necessary, I just hope it's actually sufficient. I can't tell if all the worst voices in this race are even in Michigan (I'm not! Look at me being part of the problem!), but the whole thing has just been some of the dumbest bickering. I worry about the general.

This is why the number one thing liberal con law people should be working on is arguments that Trump’s pardons are not valid. Obviously none of this can happen without court packing but once the new liberal court is in place, there need to be arguments ready to hand them.

I still remember when they did this with The Acolyte. Many of the "reviews" were AI-written. The big tell was that they were using old rumors or descriptions of things that eventually got changed in filming as sources. Completely different character names, story beats that didn't yet happen, etc.

Actually that was the Republicans who did that. And voters who were stupid enough to give them power again instead of voting in more Democrats who could actually get any kind of reforms through the House and Senate. We had 2 years of what was essentially a 48 person "majority" in the Senate.

It is amusing how in US discourse, the idea that George III was a tyrant goes largely unchallenged. The US had a legitimate grievance that they had no representation while being taxed. But it was not unreasonable that they should be taxed. The bizarre thing is that they still don't seem to ...1/2 A good day to remember that one of the indictments against George III in the Declaration was, "He has endeavoured to prevent the population of these States; for that purpose obstructing the Laws for Naturalization of Foreigners; refusing to pass others to encourage their migrations hither" 4 27 2/2 realise that it was Parliament rather than the King setting taxes. And yet the evidence there is clear as day. It's a really bizarre popular myth that refuses to die. I wonder why? Yeah I remember when I was a Republican, too, and thought "giving people assistance just makes them lazy and dependent on the government and they'd be better off if they pulled themselves up by their bootstraps". Thank God I grew out of that shit.

I think one of my "favorite" takes is <thing> is/was horrible, corrupt, and irredeemable, so we should replace it with an institution that does <the exact same thing>". Usually this happens with police and prisons from the left, and immigration and ACA takes from the right. Now with USAID!
