After 17 years at Cleveland Clinic I am starting today as Senior Vice President and Worldwide Head of Hematology and Oncology Medical Affairs at Bristol-Myers Squibb. I am so thankful to all my colleagues, friends, and patients at the Clinic and will be forever grateful for my experiences there.

not only are insurers effectively not liable for administrative burdens they place on patients an physicians as obstacles to care, but they are also incentivized by short-term savings even if it has long-term higher spending because they know people change insurance with jobs, age into medicare etc

Yup. One of the things that I try to highlight in my broader book project (forthcoming) is the ways that these processes can undercut cost containment goals when pts experience exacerbations. But the liability piece is huge and the subject of my next book (and this): thehill.com/opinion/heal...
