NEW: A dozen attorneys who prosecuted Jan. 6 rioters asked the Senate to stop confirming Trump's election-denying judicial nominees to lifetime seats, especially as they refuse to accept the legal facts of the event. None of the nearly 60 confirmed nominees have called Jan. 6 an "insurrection."

ICYMI last night, DHS is currently being fined every day for contempt of court until it coughs up the cell phone records of officers involved in immigration stops in L.A. last year that looked like racial profiling rather than reasonable cause. short thread -->

Fed. judge holds DHS in civil contempt of court for refusing "intentionally and not in good faith" to provide plaintiffs with phone images they intend to use to prove DHS was racially profiling people arrested in Los Angeles without reasonable suspicion. Order from July 28, unsealed today.

B. Defendants’ Noncompliance Is Intentional And Not In Good Faith. Having found that Defendants are in violation of the January 16 Forensic Imaging Order, the burden now shifts to Defendants to show that they were unable to comply. Affordable Media, 179 F.3d at 1239 (9th Cir. 1999). They fail to make that showing. Upon review of the parties’ submissions and counsel’s representations at the hearing, it does not appear that Defendants’ noncompliance is due to an inability to comply. Instead, the clear and convincing evidence shows that Defendants have acted intentionally and not in good faith.

Abdul El-Sayed was outspent 9-to-1 by AIPAC and corporate Super PACs in the most expensive Senate Democratic primary of all time. Last night, he proved that organized people can beat organized money.

NEW from me: I think this is the perfect time to use Rachel Maddow’s oft-repeated phrase - ‘watch what they do- not what they say.’ Ignore Ellison's PR pitch, but look at what's happening at CBS News including directing reporters to add “facts” that did not exist. open.substack.com/pub/jennifer...

David Ellison can’t be trusted with CNN

We've already seen how Ellison has wrecked CBS. Don't fall for his PR push on CNN.

This Thursday, SpaceX insiders will be released from their first post-IPO stock lockup and can cash out early. As I've been saying, this has all the hallmarks of a Ponzi scheme.

Six congressmen bought between $83,000 to $245,000 in SpaceX stock just before its IPO: -Jared Moskowitz -Gil Cisneros -Dan Meuser -John McGuire -William Timmons -John James Five serve on committees whose work impacts SpaceX's business. We must ban members of Congress from trading stock.

The historic results last night are a testament to what we've known: Democrats win when we center the people. Democrats win when we fight for bold policies that go as broad and deep as the hurt our communities are facing. Democrats win when we don't moderate our aspirations.

A gracious concession: “I want to congratulate Abdul El-Sayed on winning the Democratic nomination for U.S. Senate. He is a doctor, a community health official, a Rhodes Scholar, and a dedicated Michigander. I am proud to offer my support as he takes on Mike Rogers in the general election…

The Trump administration is pushing for the construction of 82 new gas-burning plants to power data centers. These plants would release as much pollution as half of all passenger vehicles in the U.S.

🧵🧵🧵 A scandal that hardly anyone knows happened is Trump giving traitor Michael Flynn $1.25 million in your tax money. Flynn, Trump’s 1st national security adviser, pleaded guilty twice to lying to the FBI but was pardoned by Trump. He sued, alleging "weaponization," and DOJ paid him in March. 1/4🧵

Justice Dept. Settles Flynn’s Wrongful Prosecution Suit for $1.25 Million (Gift Article)

The agreement was an extraordinary example of how the Trump administration has offered legal relief to those aligned with the president.

Legislators in several states have passed, or are considering, laws to push back against the federal government’s overreach under the second Trump administration. These statues are modeled off of older laws in Maine and California.

This Maine Lawsuit is Testing the Boundaries of Suing Federal Immigration Agents - Bolts

Federal law makes it very difficult to file lawsuits against federal officers, but some states have adopted their own laws to give people a so-called cause of action to sue.
