If the Iran conflict destroys the global economy, that won't be because nobody foresaw the risks of running a huge portion of your energy supply through one of the most strategically vulnerable regions on the planet, or because the limits of fossil fuels weren't obvious.
For example, if the Iran conflict turns into a spectacular symbolic failure, it'll probably be because a major warship gets sunk or a substantial assault is repelled. That would be dramatic. But the actual collapse is the decision-making process that led to that point, not the event itself.
