GOP ads right now are all about attacking trans people. Over, and over, and over. I was a gay teen in 2004 watching the Bush campaign try to win on attacking gay marriage, but the resort to this hate drive in campaign ads feels so dialed up now. I can’t imagine being an lgbt kid watching tv today.

Buried lede: among those speaking out against this is Gregory Baylor, senior counsel at Alliance Defending Freedom, a major conservative Christian legal group: “The government shouldn’t punish people who pursue socially valuable callings just because in its judgment they don’t earn enough money.”

Trump is banning students majoring in degrees that don’t make enough money from taking out college loans. Degrees for social work, art, religious studies, teaching aides, and music will be hit the hardest. trib.al/kQdKbY1

"The sources added that Patel consistently kept Bailey at arm's length and cut him out of meetings the deputy FBI director should attend because Bailey was constantly flagging things that were unconstitutional." www.cbsnews.com/news/top-fbi...

Top FBI official Andrew Bailey, who was once widely seen as Patel successor, resigns

Bailey was originally brought in to help ease tensions between former Attorney General Pam Bondi and former FBI Deputy Director Dan Bongino.

Not a shock that DHS got key facts re alleged voting fraud completely wrong. The question is why do traditional news outlets often just run with initial press releases from DHS or Trump controlled agencies writ large as if they were legit and feature their framing in headlines, leads?

Incredible. First Secretary Mullin claimed that DHS had identified 15,903 noncitizens on Nevada’s voter roll. Then DHS officials told a skeptical Nevada, no no no, that’s just people we flagged. Here are the names of 185 people we KNOW aren’t citizens. All 185 were citizens. DHS got 100% wrong.

If the law stated REAL DAMN CLEAR that a frontier lab is found liable for punitive damages if its model escapes its sandbox and hacks shit, and if that law was robustly enforced, then the frontier labs would figure out how to build better sandboxes. This really isn't rocket science.

Two notes on this passage: -Aside from aligning the AIs so they, uh, properly serve humanity, the other thing you could do is set liability frameworks that make certain behaviors REAL DAMN EXPENSIVE for the model developers. Amodei is never gonna support that, because it'd be bad for him. But(...)

Shame on Mt. Sinai for capitulating with this settlement, which violates that legacy of inclusion, their own Hippocratic oath, and New York’s human rights laws. (3/3)

A piece of crop art that deserves more attention: Liberty Leading the People by Bethany Nagan, which earned a 3rd place ribbon. This is her first piece of crop art, and I think she used literally every seed in the catalog 😂. The parallels between this and the Guernica piece are beautiful.

Among the victims: a collab between USAID and NASA for flood prediction, early warning, disaster readiness, glacier inventories, and mapping dangerous glacial lakes in Nepal. These programs could have helped foresee or mitigate this week's glacial flooding catastrophe. 1000 victims and raising

It’s genuinely difficult to articulate how evil destroying USAID was. And it’s weird bc some people are so committed to the US anti-imperial angle that they skip right over the “literally the worst excesses of capitalism, the world’s richest man just decided to turn off money to poor people” angle.

Note the more immediate thing folks are missing abt these stories is that Elon was declared to have broken GA mail-in ballot law, he was referred for bribery prosecution (but not charged), and is being sued under two different theories, one stiffing workers, another fraud.

More than a few people have assumed Axios would have an especially slanted view on this, but pretty much every piece about Musk diving into the midterms ignores, well… all of it.

Texans check your voter registration, especially those in Dallas, Collin, Denton, and Tarrant counties. From the article: Suspended voter registrations span the whole state, but these Blue/Blue leaning counties are targets: Dallas: +129,000 Collin: 56,000 Denton: 56,000 Tarrant: + 73,000

Texas Has Suspended More Than 1 Million Voters Ahead of Senate Race

If you’re one of the people who had their voter registration suspended, there’s still time to fix it.

It is EXTREMELY IMPORTANT to recognize — and the article discusses this — that "underlying conditions" is a very broad category. You may have one even if you don't think of yourself as high risk. See long list here: www.cdc.gov/covid/hcp/cl...

What to Know About New Covid Vaccines for Fall 2026 (Gift Article)

The shots have been approved for people 65 and older, and for younger people with underlying conditions. Others may be able to get them off label.
