📢 New research details how an important cellular enzyme is controlled, uncovering new insights into the fundamental biological processes controlling gene expression.
Last week, I had the pleasure of attending the Responses to DNA Damage meeting in Egmond aan Zee. It was truly inspiring and exciting to see the incredible science being carried out in DNA repair, and even more exciting to present my work in one of the plenary sessions.

Have a look at our latest results on #CDK regulation, just posted as a pre-print! This study was spearheaded by PhD student Amy McGeoch. Amy has determined the #cryoEM structure of the CDK11-cyclin L-SAP30B complex, an important regulator of #spliceosome activation. www.biorxiv.org/content/10.6...
The final version of our article on XPF-ERCC1-SLX4 complexes has now been published (the link below still works). I am happy to report that the rendering of our DNA gels has now been corrected. 😉
Our latest paper on the molecular mechanisms of XPF-ERCC1 recruitment to SLX4-dependent DNA repair pathways has been published! Congratulations to first author Junjie Feng, and a heartfelt thank you to all our collaborators for their contributions to this study! www.nature.com/articles/s41...
An early Christmas present! The ICR’s new Hydra Bio FIB-SEM has been delivered, which will sit at the heart of a consortium between the @icr.ac.uk, Imperial, QMUL and KCL. Currently being stored at Imperial, it’ll be installed in a brand new lab at the ICR next year. Exciting things coming in 2026!🔬

Now out in Science! Cyclin-dependent kinases (CDKs) are key regulators of the cell cycle. In @vcushing.bsky.social's magnum opus, we use #cryoEM to figure out how the CDK-activating kinase recognises CDKs to fully activate them - a key step in cell cycle control. www.science.org/doi/10.1126/...
Structural basis of T-loop–independent recognition and activation of CDKs by the CDK-activating kinase
Cyclin-dependent kinases (CDKs) are prototypical regulators of the cell cycle. The CDK-activating kinase (CAK) acts as a master regulator of CDK activity by catalyzing the activating phosphorylation o...
