Excited and honored to be joining the ASAPbio Board of Directors! Preprints and the early circulation of research have been central to my research for some time, and I’m really looking forward to contributing to this work alongside such a thoughtful group of colleagues.

We would like to extend a warm welcome to the six new members of the ASAPbio Board of Directors! Let's welcome @amamotoryoji.bsky.social, @jeremymberg.bsky.social, Stefano Bertozzi, @nataschachtena.bsky.social, @rnls.bsky.social, and @csmarcum.sciences.social.ap.brid.gy!

I've seen some talk about how we are witnessing the end of the professoriate as we know it and this may be true, but I think it's bigger: it's the decimation of the mission-oriented profession. Want to make a middle-class living serving the public good? Capitalism doesn't want that for you.

One speaker referred to Metascience as ‘successful branding’ to engage policy makers; another spoke of it ‘strategically forgetting’ well-established disciplines like STS and Philosophy of Science.

I’m wary of comparing illnesses, but sometimes it’s useful for showing just how severe and misunderstood some conditions are. Good to see post-viral illness & chronic fatigue getting more attention. Hoping this kind of research starts to shape clinical practice, too. www.ucl.ac.uk/engineering/...

Long Covid can impact fatigue and quality of life worse than some cancers

Fatigue is the symptom that most significantly impacts the daily lives of long Covid patients, and can affect quality of life more than some cancers, finds a new study led by researchers at UCL and th...

🧵Solidarity with Francesca Albanese. She is facing a barrage of lies and smears + the Trump Admin is calling on the UN to fire her. Why? Because there is simply no arguing with her devastating new report on the companies profiting from genocide. Stay tuned for our interview on @zeteo.com.

This may be a small act, but it matters. Proud that our lab has taken a stand against the genocide in Palestine and in support of the PACBI call.

Today, the #scholcommlab published a Statement of Support for PACBI Principles. With it, I reject my university's (SFU's) complicity in the ongoing genocide in Gaza, and call them out for restricting my ability to direct the work of @pkp.sfu.ca in a principled way. www.scholcommlab.ca/pacbi/

I catch blocks if I talk about C19 but: There’s a new, more contagious strain spreading—“razor blade throat” is one symptom. But, most spread is SYMPTOMLESS. You DON’T KNOW you’re spreading it. More spread, more mutations & variants—>more disabled & dead. Put a mask on in public. We keep us safe.

I've said it enough but I cannot recommend this any more highly. It's a fantastic opportunity for anyone interested in preprints and metascience. I wish this was live when I was looking for postdocs.

@petersuber.bsky.social makes a simple but important point: if we want research to remain open and uncensored, we need to host it in more than one place—and more than one country.

I just did an interview for @zbw-leibniz.bsky.social on the impact of #Trump admin actions on US research and higher education. Thanks to @avatter.de for the good questions. www.zbw-mediatalk.eu/2025/04/pete... #Academicsky #Acadsky #Censorship #DefendResearch #Takedowns #USPol #USPolitics

Side note: Many early career researchers are afraid someone will steal their ideas if they post a preprint. Time and time again, the idea stealer is in the lab or seminar room. Getting your ideas out of there with your name on them can provide protection.

The University of Minnesota is facing accusations that it mishandled multiple reports of plagiarism by a star professor who’d brought millions of dollars in grants to the school.

“Water is also being used as a weapon of war. In early March, a week after stopping any food…from getting into Gaza, Israel cut off the electricity supply to Gaza’s main operational desalination plant. The situation now could not be more desperate. ‘Gaza is a killing field’.”

Gaza is a ‘killing field’ where people are being starved. How long will the world tolerate this? | Arwa Mahdawi

What is happening is, quite simply, annihilation. Yet our politicians keep funding it and media outlets normalize it

All the good OS jobs require you to be in the US. This space needs a kick up the butt - especially now. So much talent being missed out on for roles that could be remote and global!
