NEA of Southern Nevada is the Southern Nevada affiliate of the Nevada State Education Association and the National Education Association

"NSEA has been urging Lombardo to implement recommendations from a panel of school finance experts to get Nevada's per-pupil funding up to the national average. Its ideas have been ignored by Lombardo. Instead, Lombardo has been looking at data centers as a source for additional tax revenue."

Nevada State Education Association@nsea.bsky.social · 2d ago

"But critics — such as the Nevada State Education Association, which has endorsed Lombardo's Democratic opponent, Attorney General @aarondfordnv.bsky.social , and Assm. @selenafornevada.bsky.social, a Washoe County social studies high school teacher — gave Lombardo's efforts on K-12 education an F."

And never forget that the day after Joe Lombardo signed a bill giving $380 million to a California billionaire for a stadium, Lombardo vetoed school meals for students (which increased grocery prices for families) Vote accordingly, Nevada.

As ballots begin to hit mailboxes and early voting starts this Saturday, remember that Joe Lombardo vetoed universal school meals for our kids. @aarondfordnv.bsky.social has proposed guaranteeing free breakfast and lunch to all public school students in Nevada regardless of family income.

Healthy School Meals for All helps remove barriers that can keep students from participating in school meal programs. More access. Less paperwork. Nutritious meals for more students.

Release: NSEA and our Clark County affiliates welcome requested action on school funding crisis “When educators saw cuts threatening our schools, we told state leaders to figure out a way, and they did. Educators spoke up, and state leaders listened. Our schools and students are better for it.”

"As a public school educator, I’m being told data centers are supposed to be good for my students because they might generate money for schools. I don’t buy it. I have a simple question: Why should funding for my classroom and students depend on Nevada building more data centers?" @neasn.bsky.social

If Gov. Lombardo would like to take a break from giving data centers tax abatements, he could address the school funding crisis caused by his $2 increase in per-pupil funding and use all available mechanisms, including some of the $650M Education Stabilization Account, to provide temporary funding.

ICYMI: This week NSEA, @neasn.bsky.social, and Education Support Employees Association called on state leaders to immediately stabilize school funding in the Clark County School District and other Districts.

🚨Release: Public Schools Shouldn't Be Used to Sell More Data Centers "This is not a pro-public education executive order. Public education is being used to provide political cover for a data-center growth policy. He should stop inventing data-center-dependent approaches to school funding."

Yes, Gov. Lombardo, we agree. Your administration has done a very poor job in education over the years! You vetoed universal school meals, lower class sizes, and after years of chronic underfunding, you increased per pupil funding by just $2 per student causing districts to cut staff and services.

Let's be clear: today's proposal from an organization backing Joe Lombardo for Governor is not a school-funding plan. It's a data center growth plan that uses students and teachers to make it more politically attractive. Just another gimmick to help the wealthy keep their tax abatements.

Dedicating some revenue to public education doesn’t make bad policy good policy. This is a pro-data center policy with some education funding attached to make a deeply unpopular industry easier to sell.

Yada yada we support data centers and want to see more built in your backyard but can’t really say that yada yada yada This is a pro-data center policy with some education funding attached to make the unpopular data center industry easier to sell. Just another gimmick.

Let's be clear: Your job should not cost you your voice. Public school employees do not surrender their right to speak out when they choose a career serving Nevada’s students. We're glad R-4392, Employee Freedom of Speech, was pulled from tomorrow's agenda. Here is the letter we planned to submit.

We’ve said Schools Over Stadiums, Schools Over Studios, and now, Schools Over Servers. For too long, Nevada has called corporate subsidies “investments” while public education is “spending,” handing hundreds of millions in public dollars to professional sports and data centers.

Revenue isn’t only what we collect. It’s what we choose not to collect. Nevada has given hundreds of millions of dollars in public support to professional sports, and data centers which are perhaps the most egregious example of this misplaced priority. www.nsea-nv.org/resource-lib...

The Commission on School Funding has given us a plan to fully fund our schools. When it comes to revenue, Nevada can’t continue to be more generous to sports teams and server farms than to the Nevadans who educator our kids and keep our schools running. Seriously, pass the plan.

Stadiums. Servers. Studios. There's always another subsidy and another reason why Nevada gives away revenue. But when it comes to adequately funding our schools, suddenly, the money is not there. Meanwhile, Nevada remains $4000 behind the national average with the largest class sizes in the country.

Gov. Lombardo sent Nevada educators what reads like a campaign ad straight to their school inboxes, courtesy of his taxpayer-funded office. Funny how he's only sending these emails during an election year. The reality is that educators haven’t seen a pay raise in 3 years. #NVLeg
