🗳️ Early voting starts this Saturday (10/17), and mail ballots are already arriving! Nevada's public schools deserve more than $2 per student. They deserve real investment! See NSEA's endorsed candidates, including @aarondfordnv.bsky.social for Governor, who are committed to putting students first!

Release: NSEA and our Clark County affiliates welcome requested action on school funding crisis “When educators saw cuts threatening our schools, we told state leaders to figure out a way, and they did. Educators spoke up, and state leaders listened. Our schools and students are better for it.”
"And Nevadans are skeptical. According to Emerson College Polling, a majority of Nevada voters oppose data centers being built in or near their communities. Attaching school funding and promising revenue doesn’t suddenly make their concerns about water, energy, noise and quality of life disappear."
"As a public school educator, I’m being told data centers are supposed to be good for my students because they might generate money for schools. I don’t buy it. I have a simple question: Why should funding for my classroom and students depend on Nevada building more data centers?" @neasn.bsky.social

If Gov. Lombardo would like to take a break from giving data centers tax abatements, he could address the school funding crisis caused by his $2 increase in per-pupil funding and use all available mechanisms, including some of the $650M Education Stabilization Account, to provide temporary funding.
ICYMI: This week NSEA, @neasn.bsky.social, and Education Support Employees Association called on state leaders to immediately stabilize school funding in the Clark County School District and other Districts.

More 🔥 from Hugh at the @nevadacurrent.com "But in the here and now, their main purpose is reelecting a CCEA-beholden, Trump-enamored Lombardo. And in the process, the state must bow before perhaps the most arrogant, callous, threatening, and dangerous industry the world has ever known."
Straight 🔥 from Hugh Jackson at the @nevadacurrent.com on the pro-data center ccea giving cover to Joe Lomabrdo.
If state leaders want data centers to support public education, end all abatements and make them pay their fair share. It's that simple.
🚨Release: Public Schools Shouldn't Be Used to Sell More Data Centers "This is not a pro-public education executive order. Public education is being used to provide political cover for a data-center growth policy. He should stop inventing data-center-dependent approaches to school funding."

Given 59% of Nevadan voters don't want more data centers in their neighborhoods, and folks are trying to use public education to sell their growth, will Joe Lombardo and company be hopping on these trump pollster talking points to sell more data centers to Nevadans? 🤔
Scoop: Trump pollster gives GOP a data center survival guide
Candidates need to emphasize putting conditions on development, he says.

Yes, Gov. Lombardo, we agree. Your administration has done a very poor job in education over the years! You vetoed universal school meals, lower class sizes, and after years of chronic underfunding, you increased per pupil funding by just $2 per student causing districts to cut staff and services.
Our public schools shouldn’t be “powered” by more data centers. If Joe Lombardo and co. want data centers to support our public schools, end the abatements and make them pay their fair share.
So John Vellardita of ccea just admitted on KNPR that they're literally trying to tip the scales for Joe Lombardo in support of data centers! "When asked if that meant the union was trying to influence the election in favor of Republican incumbent Governor Joe Lombardo, Vellardita said yes."
Funding for our public schools and students should not depend on Nevada building more data centers. The good news is that lawmakers already have the Commission on School Funding's plan to sustainably fund our schools, and it doesn't make funding dependent on building more unpopular data centers.
Nevada’s property tax system allows depreciation to continue even after a property is sold. The Commission on School Funding recommends resetting depreciation at the point of sale, generating significant new revenue for Nevada’s public schools. We already have the roadmap. Seriously, Pass the Plan.

“We’re giving runaway tax breaks and subsidies to an industry that doesn’t need them, and students and educators are paying the price.”
Why Are Data Centers Being Built So Close to Public Schools? | NEA
Educators are raising alarms about the impact on student learning and how much school funding is lost when the tech industry is given massive tax breaks to build data centers in their communities.

Just another public education headline under Joe Lombardo.
There's no need to clip comments. Lombardo's record is making plenty of headlines on its own.
Today marks 50 DAYS until Election Day 🗳️ Public education is on the ballot, and that's why we're standing behind @aarondfordnv.bsky.social for Governor. Our public schools, our students, and our communities are counting on us to show up. Make a plan. Make your voice heard.
Welp, nothing says “serious plan to fund public education” like making school funding dependent on the continued growth of an industry 59% of Nevada voters don’t want in their communities. Good luck with that, Joe Lombardo and company.
Let's be clear: today's proposal from an organization backing Joe Lombardo for Governor is not a school-funding plan. It's a data center growth plan that uses students and teachers to make it more politically attractive. Just another gimmick to help the wealthy keep their tax abatements.

Dedicating some revenue to public education doesn’t make bad policy good policy. This is a pro-data center policy with some education funding attached to make a deeply unpopular industry easier to sell.

Instead of searching for the next stadium, studio, or server to pay for public education, state leaders should repeal the data center tax giveaways, make large corporations pay their fair share, and follow the roadmap Nevada already has from the Commission on School Funding.
How it feels listening to Joe Lombardo tell us how great data centers, studios, and stadiums are for Nevada.
The labor movement has always stood for something bigger than any one job or workplace. No matter where we come from or what we look like, our society is stronger, fairer, and more just when working people have a voice in the decisions that shape their lives, families, and communities.
Notwithstanding that it’s very unclear what “abated revenue” even means, Joe Lombardo’s new plan to fund our public schools is data centers? Nevadans are worried about what data centers will do to our water and electricity bills, and Lombardo’s answer is to make our schools dependent on them too.
With all the polling and public opposition, Joe Lombardo is still "wholeheartedly in support of data centers" Whether it's stadiums, studios, or servers, Lombardo's always got the wrong priorities.
Joe Lombardo says he is “wholeheartedly in support of data centers.” With just a $2 increase for students, imagine if he felt the same way about Nevada’s public schools which are still $4,000 behind the national average with the largest class sizes in the country. www.youtube.com/watch?v=uFfq...

"A policy that discourages those employees from speaking does not just silence workers. It deprives this Board, families, and the public of information they need to hold this District accountable."
Let's be clear: Your job should not cost you your voice. Public school employees do not surrender their right to speak out when they choose a career serving Nevada’s students. We're glad R-4392, Employee Freedom of Speech, was pulled from tomorrow's agenda. Here is the letter we planned to submit.

Notwithstanding that the most relatable thing about Joe Lombardo is that he also has a burner account, “wtf” is a solid reaction to Nevada’s rankings on education, class sizes, educator pay, and affordability. It’s just not the best response when you’re the guy who’s been governor for four years.
