Hi besties, so my bf is taking me on a book shopping spree for my birthday in just over 2 weeks (budget is $250, I will be contributing tho) and was looking for book recs! Genres I like: Sci-fi Fantasy Thriller Horror I also wouldn't mind no spice or mild spice romantasy recs to dip my foot in!
Idk man I feel like even if AI scraped from 100% ethical sources, had zero impact on the environment, and produced gorgeous work, I’d still think you were a bitch for using it
do publishers know that every time they call books "clean" they risk manifesting me in their offices to hit them around the head with a baguette i am the first person to yell about how publishing's pursuit of adults as YA readers instead of teens is cannibalizing the age category but this ain't it!
I have been publishing YA novels for 20 years. I have seen a lot of nonsense written about the category, but this HarperCollins imprint has set a new bar. If anything is “cynical” or tailored for “shock value,” it’s this campaign, which might as well be from Moms for Liberty. This is loathsome.

I have considered Moleskine to be outrageously overpriced for quite some time but using AI to generate a sketchbook cover betrays a level of hubris that is wild even for them. Those high prices and they couldn't be bothered to pay a human? Dump 'em. cjleo.com/blog/moleski...

a very easy, small thing you can do to make the world every so slightly better is just talk about art and creators you like, be vocal when you enjoy something

okay given this probably isn't my thing: what are some gay book recs where people dying horribly is on the table. I'm not a cozy kind of dude I'm gonna need some real uncomfortable shit to go down. I've already read summer sons and tell me I'm worthless. I don't like t kingfisher if that helps
I think everyone should be a mentor to someone about something. It’s good for you and us.
what if, in these fleeting interactions, we recognized each other's mutual humanity?? what if we allowed authors to be eccentric introverts, as god intended, rather than public celebrities with media training, flawless makeup, and infinite endurance??
finally saw the video of an author being ""rude"" at bookcon and i fear there are a lot of unanswered questions here. like: what if we didn't demand the performance of joyful intimacy from total strangers?? and what if i smash your phone with a cartoonishly large hammer???
My recommendation for independent bookstore day tomorrow is that you go to an independent bookstore (or several), be very kind to the booksellers, and buy a book on their recommendation that you previously knew nothing about. Your life will be enriched.

*gently pushes toward WE NEED YOUR ART*
Does anyone have art book recommendations? Looking less for specific technical books but more in the vein of exploring your creativity in new ways, embracing failure and loosening up your expectations. Doesn't even have to be about art if it's along these topics please send em my way!! <3
i think we just need less of everything. less work, less new stuff happening, less being produced, less bullshit media, less technology. everything in the world needs to be like 30-40% less. except medicine. and sex.

I've always boggled that writers are expected to speak in public, yet get basically no support for learning to do so. So I cheer on Jackie Kessler and Emily Sachs, who are holding a free demo for a writer-specific Toastmasters club Sunday, April 19th: us02web.zoom.us/meeting/regi...
