A plump, round chaffinch peeking out from behind a mossy branch. The bird is slightly left of centre of shot and is staring directly at the camera so that its pinkish red front and breast and pink head with blue-grey cap are visible. The light is coming from the right and the feather detail on the bird can be seen. The bird is perched on a mossy willow trunk and the light green moss takes up the entire foreground. A vertical branch to the left of the frame is also covered in moss and the bird is partially hidden behind this. The background is out of focus branches, moss, dark and light patches.
