Nice to see that we are already fly tipping on the moon.

I am not sure that we appreciate how much hostility there is from the far right to the learning and speaking of languages. 1/2 www.thetimes.com/article/9a33...
Language centre closes after ‘far-right intimidation’
The director of the Language Hub in Glasgow claimed the premises were no longer safe for staff after a ‘surveillance’ campaign by anti-migration activists

Wow Wix is terrible, slow and constantly trying to shove AI in your face. The latter problem seems endemic among site builders. Just want something simple that non techies can update easily *sigh*
Hate that AI is killing so many good online educational resources, and forcing content creators to move on. LLM is good for on the fly learning but good quality structured content is still very much worthwhile.
Being British or settled doesn’t mean your spouse can live with you 🇬🇧 Earn under £29k? No visa. Can’t save £88,500? No visa. Have kids together? Doesn’t matter. 🚨 We're launching this campaign today—help us tell the gov to stop profiting from tearing families apart reunitefamiliesuk.co.uk/sign
Experimented with public transport on Friday. Bus + Lime Bike (the latter being an new experience). £6 and 30 minutes vs £10 and 10 minutes in a taxi. What shocked me most is how expensive the Lime Bike was - £3 for just ten minutes. Hard to see how people are going to be parted from their cars.
Sad that Forvo seems to be going downhill, such a great resource but so many recordings don't play correctly any more. #langsky

The number of people on Dysgu Cymraeg courses has risen by 61% since 2017, as people in Wales rediscover the ‘poetry’ of the language

The decision to end the Listed Places of Worship Grant Scheme has created real uncertainty for churches and faith buildings, many of which rely on local donations for essential repairs. Ministers must now make clear how they will be supported if this VAT relief ends.
We need it for our security. It’s not a real country anyway. Where have we heard that narrative before? #Greenland
Tax dodging millionaire joins reform. What a surprise. And people still think Nigel is going to be looking out for them…
Really hate that YouTube has now started automatically dubbing videos into English using AI 🤮 No I’d like to the original please, if I don’t understand I’ll turn subtitles on thanks.
Why has the tech world collectively decided that the year ends in mid December? I'm inundated with "years in review", none of which are interesting and all of which are two weeks early.
Antisocial behaviour is normally associated with young people, but recently got on a bus full of pensioners and couldn’t hear myself think for all the nattering. Was too intimidated to say anything.
Went to the local Remembrance Sunday Parade today. It didn’t look like 30% of the adult population were there. It’s almost as if Reform voters are not actually patriotic…
Sorry but as a Brit every time someone says "Abigail Spanberger" all I hear is "Abigail Spam Burger".
Uber locating a driver is the new Microsoft progress bar - a totally unpredictable work of fiction.
The paradox of being old: you can’t hear what anyone is saying anymore yet the audio at the cinema is painfully loud.
Great post by @richardjameschess.bsky.social highlighting some of the real problems with how we are raising our children. We’ve struggled to get our daughter the social life she needs because her peers have little time left over after their crammed schedule. open.substack.com/pub/richard9...
Pushy Parents and Third Spaces
There have been a couple of articles in the Guardian over the past few days touching on the subject of young people’s lives outside school.

“You described Reform and other parties across Europe today as among the 'right wing equivalents of the fascists in the 1930s'. Why?” “Because that’s what they are” @vicderbyshire.bsky.social asks Lord Heseltine about remarks he made at Conservative Party Conference. #Newsnight
Say hello to Mr Orangepants whom we met on the way home from school today.
At a time when new cyberattacks debilitate British businesses seemingly daily, the UK government is demanding that security is made worse for UK users.

I'm glad Keir Starmer is finally stepping up the fight against Nigel Farage, and I hope this will mark the end of his government parroting Farage and copying his divisive politics.
I was going to vote Labour to keep Reform out, but that seems rather a pointless idea now…
Oh look Mandelson had to be sacked for being dodgy. That’s never happened before…
