Car dependency was not a choice. It was and is the deprivation of choice. Facing the loss of her bus service, Mildred Cooper looked for others in Long Beach whose mobility was also at risk. She collected 7,231 signatures.

I go crazy every time a politician suggests free or low-priced transit. There is just no way to make up the revenue loss of free transit while running enough service in order to make transit a legit time-competitive alternative to driving.

So I made my own pomodoro sauce tonight using Mutti passatta, fresh basil, Lucini Extra Virgin olive oil, fresh garlic, salt, and pepper, and now get why Italians see jarred spaghetti sauce as an abomination.

Republicans lost 40 seats (including ones that hadn’t gone to Democrats in generations like VA-07 and VA-10) and control of the House in 2018 in part because of ACA repeal. They had the most most favorable Senate map in a century that year, yet gained only one Senate seat.

It’s funny how when a Black politician finally gains the senority to obtain the speakership, and Black and Hispanic politicians generally have greatly increased their seniority and institutional power, now is the time to throw that all away. That makes perfect sense for white people.
