The thing about TED LASSO coming back is its AppleTV peer MYSTERY QUEST ended its second season with a very clear observation about the importance of knowing when your story is over & its time to move on, and then made a third season that illustrates what happens when you don't learn that lesson.
Anyways, a bunch of people who followed me yesterday afternoon/evening doubtless expecting a bunch of kitten pics to follow are going to be sorely disappointed over the next couple of days, this is a bird household. Bateleur eagles are really cool!
My position on Boots Theory is that it perfectly describes my lifelong experiences as an avowed boot guy (my orthopedic problems prevent me from wearing sneakers regularly, they don't provide enough support): a $250 pair that lasts me ten years much better than the $100 pairs I used to go through.

Its good actually when Democrats come together after a primary and acknowledge that Republicans are actually the real threat and should be kept out of office at all costs.

Always interesting to watch people treat a single-digit percentage point win in a very close race as a mandate, rather than a sign that the winning candidate probably has some coalition-building work to do.
a recurring theme of the last decade plus of inter-Dem fights is social media stans being like "FUCK THE OTHER SIDE, I HATE THE OTHER SIDE" while Dem voters are like "man, I love all my options, what a tough choice between these great candidates!" lmao
I've noticed this issue too, and I think (as someone who has been an environmentalist since I was a Boy Scout) is that part of the issue is that environmentalism as a lifestyle practice has become so much more mainstream vs. when I was a kid that as political activism it's become almost superfluous.

That's two questions but the answer is "yes" to both. Hell, Copilot appears to have broken MS Word's spellcheck/grammar check functions outright; if it went away my job might actually get easier.

I’m telling you this as a political scientist. The person who is electable is the one who is elected. This can and does change over time. Any and all speculation about “electability” is either puffery or anxiety and is often both.

I'll be disappointed if Stevens wins, but mostly what you should take away from tonight is that the coalition really is divided between factions with lots of genuine support, we can't wish the other side away, and we're all going to have to learn to live with each other if we want to win.

Everyone being weirdly friendly or hostile to him cause of his face pic. Angrily shoving into conversations being like "you've got this all wrong" only to get dogpiled.
One of the things I don’t think some get about the Wilson critiques of The Odyssey is that one of the only and best ways academics can make our work and expertise relevant and available to the public is to pick a hot topic or newsworthy story and use it as an entry point to that expertise/research
The fact that I both understood and, I think, recognized this makes me want to go take a long nap on some train tracks somewhere.

Rather enjoy seeing a bunch of Bluesky posters (mostly dudes) whom I would be willing to bet have never taken an film theory, cinema, or cinematography course in their life confidently dismiss Emily Wilson's analyses with "she just doesn't understand film." That's not stopping you, bro.
OK so apparently ~60% of the problem here is the fact that people on Bluesky often do not actually read the accompanying text when one posts a photo of a cat.

Both of my sister’s family’s elder cats passed away earlier this year. While it took a bit longer than I expected, this weekend they adopted a new one. Sharing it here even though Bluesky notoriously doesn’t care much for cats.

Generic store-brand NSAIDs like aspirin and ibuprofen not only work just as well as the name-brand stuff, they are often made in the exact same factories and just shipped under a different label. 1/2 the price, 3x the quantity in the bottle.

Making a sequel to this film would be as if, having successfully captured lighting in a bottle once, one decided to next attempt to capture the entire storm. Which almost certainly means it will get made at some point.
