Here's what I actually think these incidents reveal (instead of a rogue AI terminator situation): Much of the infra we expect to be hardened is actually being held together by glue and popsicle sticks.

Everyone else is worried about the AI apocalypse but I’ve been hearing about that for 30 years and I can’t get very worked up any more. For me the question is: If these things can code (and they can!) then why aren’t we seeing any great software? www.nytimes.com/2026/09/12/o...

Opinion | A.I. Was Supposed to Give Us New Killer Apps. What Happened? (Gift Article)

Just because A.I. is revolutionizing coding, doesn’t mean it will automatically revolutionize our apps.

I changed git diff / jj diff to display diffs in emacs / magit-diff. Wow! I often want to make finicky comment / API edits to the code. And this editing experience is what I've wanted for years.

Very well written. The Navier-Stokes result by OpenAI was a bad look IMO, esp. since they rushed it out without having a human expert on the problem who could judge what it is they're putting out (setting aside the plagiarism allegations). Hopefully this declaration will help labs course correct.

A group of 25 Fields Medalists, including myself, have made a joint declaration on Math and AI: mathandai.org . We welcome additional signatories. See also this article in the Economist announcing the declaration: www.economist.com/science-and-...

I thought this CS book would be a stupid gimmick. It's surprisingly well-thought-out! The logic gates change on each page. My infant tries different combinations of hitting the light and the button. He sticks out his tongue and looks like he's thinking hard.

everyone — consumers, publishers, writers — would wind up better off if web browser ad-blockers didn't exist and the rationalizations for using one are mostly clever justifications for what's just selfish behavior with obvious negative social consequences.

Today niri became 3 years old! 🎉 I implemented and merged animations for windows moving between workspaces. This was the last *major* missing anim. Took so long because it's tricky with Z ordering (moving windows must be on top of everything), clipping, and syncing 3 different animations. #niri

Eh, one nice thing I'll say about mcp is that there's a meaningful attempt to figure out a standardized auth story, and give the API provider the responsibility of managing the complexity. I've used way too many APIs that treat auth as an afterthought and push complexity onto the user.

Alarmed at this trend of people finally realizing MCP is a pointless abstraction, then skipping right over publishing a regular boring API, and instead launching new CLIs for agents to use for some reason. It’s baffling.

I might be giving up on home row mods (figuring out how to put ctrl, alt, shift, cmd on the home row). Which makes me sad because they are super satisfying when they work! On the plus side, I am getting closer to becoming a person who writes medium posts on keyboard layouts.

finally getting into a groove with “Mina the Hollower” and folks this game absolutely rules. it’s hard as hell but extremely rewarding when you solve a puzzle or beat a boss or just discover something new
