Exeter has a phenomenal track record of literary studies research AND enrollment. The unbundling of the two will sabotage them both. And that is by design. The fewer research-intensive humanities departments there are, this thinking goes, the easier it will be to censor what they produce.

thinking about MFA programs in creative writing, isn't it wild that divisions in genre--poetry or fiction--lead students (broadly) to completely distinct publishing economies--the former largely organized around small, independent, & nonprofit publishers, the latter largely around commercial houses?
Just learned that Alan Zipkin of Derringer Books passed away last year. Access to Alan's stock of postwar small press & little magazines helped me become the scholar I am today. Booksellers are so crucial to the field--gatekeepers to the primary sources we didn't know we needed. Thank you, Alan.
