NEW: Public records obtained by 404 Media show administrators taking meetings with parents and alumni when they take issue with student reporting. This comes as student journalists at The Cornell Daily Sun earned recognition for breaking the “Cornell Seven” story.

How Schools and Universities Try to Censor Student Journalists

As the Cornell 7 case highlights the importance of student journalism, public records reveal how schools try to censor on-campus news outlets.

i am once again begging you to support rascal; good people writing on important topics. the ttrpg industry deserves so much better in journalism and critical analysis than "here's how to optimize your build in 5e" listicles or "new splatbook ports Avatar to dnd".

Adding some context to this: Rascal's membership peaked in January this year at around 2500 subscribers. This was due to our 1$ sale in December where around 300 people signed up. But ever since then, it's been a steady decline... (1/x) bsky.app/profile/rasc...

Very happy to say I’m going to @viableparadise.bsky.social this fall ✨ I received a Writer of Color Scholarship and am fundraising for the rest. Earning in pesos makes getting to a U.S. workshop its own exercise in speculative economics, so any help (or share) means a lot! gofund.me/198c28fdb

Finally saw the Odyssey after the discourse and mostly came away liking it, rating a little below Oppenheimer, a movie with similar themes. I’m looking past the very clunky dialogue at the end and chewing on whether the movie actually thinks civ will rise again and their mistakes will be forgotten

I understand that it sucks to have to read a book you didn't choose as a kid but when people are like 40 and still going, "well assigned reading turned me off from reading" it's like, ok but you're 40. No one has assigned you a book in like 20 years.

I agree with chunks of this (there's a real conversation about current short fiction trends and tastes) but if I asked a market what they were going to do about AI and how they would respond to publishing it by accident, I would not be satisfied by "we're too niche and weird for that to happen"

Hi, SFF Apex, Bona Books, Agita Publishing, And all the others who have gotten tricked by AI, Let's have a nice talk.

it's important to remember "the left" is an ideal you commit to and not a politics you have to enact by specific means so you should basically assume any time someone refers to "the left" and it having a problem they are personally attacking you and your beautiful soul. the only good faith is yours!

THIS. THIS THIS THIS THIS THIS you may have seen @reckoningmag.bsky.social's post. we found multiple publications for that person that had certain hallmarks.... to be clear, you can't be sure unless the person tells you or there's tags/prompts left in the text, but sketchy behavior is suggestive!

Maybe you thought, like us, that if you read AI fiction you’d just *know*. We thought they’d feel obvious, but AI stories are already passing editorial scrutiny with magazines and presses around the world. That’s the most alarming lesson in this.
