I'm very please to announce a public release of my drag-and-drop bookmarking, game-making, and wandering tool Scrubjay! Scrubjay is a weird website builder that lets you cobble together web elements, images, links, text fragments, etc into a series of nested rooms...

"SCRUBJAY" sits over a bunch of images of frogs, birds, doors. it's a very 90s look

When we talk about “funding the arts” wrt games, we shouldn’t only focus on neoliberal funding schemes oriented around individual studios (e.g. job and tax revenue focused) but also on funding for events, clubs, organizations, critics, etc that do the work of building meaningful context around play.

The computer offers way more to us than just automating away calculation. Indeed, sometimes the computer should *not* try to or pretend to adjudicate "the rules". Especially in an era of genAI, it's more useful than ever to think differently about how to use computers and make videogames.

Final day to apply for my Tools for Creativity class at the School for Poetic Computation! 5 weeks, online, scholarships available. Learn to make things which encourage other people to make things! sfpc.study/sessions/fal...

The way profit maxxing corpo culture has invaded every form of art through algorithms pushing people into daily posting is really weighing on me lately. Efficiency and regularity of making "content" being prized above all else feels so grim, man.

in video games the word "survival" means clearcutting a forest to build a fortress and "cozy" means starting a small business so you can eventually earn enough money to clearcut a forest and build a fortress

Huge congrats to Nifflas. I beta tested this game and of course I absolutely loved it. Anyone who is interested in music+games should specifically keep an eye on this. bsky.app/profile/niff...

Announcement: I'm teaming up with 505 Pulse for my game Rhythm Doggo. If you think you'd like it, please wishlist: store.steampowered.com/app/4090240/... Also there's a discord where we'll do playtesting discord.gg/3SG2ZxVeb The game's key art was made by @1neila1.bsky.social #gamedev #indiedev

as someone who worked on bg3, I fully agree - it's so utterly hypocritical how these platforms treat sex and eroticism - they want to make bank off big releases (and payment processors conveniently look the other way when this happens!) but strangle entire swathes of content from indies

It makes me so angry that baldur’s gate won every single game of the year award in existence, but if it had been an indie game it would not have been allowed on the any storefront or funding platforms.

One of the (many, many) things I resent about "AI" is the implication that videogames are wanting for some kind of technological revolution Artistically, videogames are doing so well imo. What game devs actually need is: affordable rent, stable employment, free education, etc.

Giving this talk on Friday at an internal School symposium (maybe with some uni execs in attendance, lol) I'm really swinging for the fences on this one, plz pray for me
