He/him Labels, like shirts, tend to fit too tight at the collar and too long at the sleeves, but if you treat me as a mediocre, cishet, middle-aged white guy, you're not going to be far off the mark. Might follow back if you'll add joy to my timeline.

I might, were I to be especially generous, accept the notion that people were hoodwinked. Credulous media, the toxic ecosystem of social media, their moronic peers. Sure. However, to be so disastrously easy a mark is a dire moral failing of its own kind.

And the story is "We cannot really measure goodness, but we CAN measure dollars, and good things have come out of dollars, so then the only way to TRULY pursue goodness is to pursue wealth. And because this is good, any attempt to constrain growth of wealth would be evil!" This, sadly, worked.

Ok, no, I have a little more bile about Friedman and the power of stories. The stories we tell ourselves are INCREDIBLY important. Humans can do unbelievable things (both good and bad) when we are inspired by the story of who we are and why we do things.

The time to prevent the thing from happening is *early*, as it is gaining steam. These things always start small, with efforts to weaken the norms against discrimination, with casual, unreflective slurs. They start with wedge policies (not gays, just gay adoption! not trans, just sports!).

Ottawa temperatures are dropping as low as -29°C this weekend. 🥶 Need a place to warm up in Centretown? Visit the Taggart Family Y lobby at 180 Argyle Avenue. We have seating, wifi, and washrooms. Low-cost meals and snacks are available from Chef Ric's. Keep safe and bundled up! 🧣

Is it me, or are some of the lyrics in "Feed the World (don't they know it's Christmas time)" kinda screwed up? Like "tonight thank god it's them instead of you"? Seriously? What the fuck, hard pass, thanks, maybe not being grateful for anyone starving is a better option?
