What a wild week. In and out of A&E and urgent care with a fractured leg and suspected thrombosis. I would say “stick a fork in me, I’m done”, but please don’t as I am now on blood thinners.

Again and again the press runs these numbers, and again and again they fail to point out that the foreign-born prison population is LOWER than the native-born, proportionally. Because if they stated that basic fact, they wouldn't have a story, because the only story they want is "racism is right".

I was never a regular but I still have so many memories. The Oloffson is where I was drinking a ji grenadya when I heard Duvalier was back in Haiti. It's where I earned the worst hangover of my life. It's where I met countless friends and heard countless stories.

This is shattering. The Oloffson wasn't just a hotel. Not even just a landmark or historic site. It was a spiritual home for thousands of people over the years, Haitian and foreigner, including me.

There’s nothing that isn’t heartbreaking about this, but the power of memory is really profound, and it’s really heartening in this moment to hear people sharing their memories of the Oloffson.

I work part time for Régine Chassagne's (Arcade Fire) foundation for Haiti called KANPE. Richard and Lunise have been friends and supporters. AND there was this one night back in 2011 when Arcade Fire played a 45 minute set at the Oloffson for about 250 people. Think it was about $13 to get in.

Are Starmer and Reeves finally about to take their heads out of the sand and admit that taxing wealth fairly is a much better idea than cutting support for disabled people?
