Through extraordinary efforts, @windbornewx.bsky.social successfully navigated a controllable balloon above powerful Typhoon Dolphin, descended into its eye, then collected multiple vertical profiles as we circled inside its eye. A first of its kind type of hurricane data collection.

Aberdeen, SD with over 7000 J/Kg of surface-based CAPE this evening. Note how this is largely driven by the 80F surface dewpoint with a strong hydrolapse (vertical change/decrease in dewpoint w/height). Cap just above the surface is likely containing all this moisture in the skin layer.

What went wrong: we had excellent low-level moisture and good upslope flow for 36-48 hours, but the timing of yesterday's shortwave was too early, and we also never got any sort of meaningful lift (think a weak front or outflow surge from KS/eastern CO convection). #COwx
