That is now three articles I’ve read in the last month where someone’s mysterious chronic pain is solved by finally seeing a doctor who doesn’t take insurance. Cool.

My kid keeps bragging about how many people came to his birthday party which is hilarious because he spent the whole party alone drinking seltzer.
To Wilson the source material can only be failed, there is very little serious consideration of what Nolan’s intent may be. The artist is secondary. Roads not traveled are enlightening though, in that they underline and help us interrogate the choices that were made
I actually disagreed with most of Wilson’s pan but this is very funny writing and also gets at the biggest issue with that movie.
As a kid my pop told me he wasn’t interested in Star Wars after the first big ship went overhead because it was just reproducing capitalism in space.
Josephine "beckbook.com" Riesman@josie.zone · 2w agoThe thing that struck me most during last night's big-screen rewatch of 2001: A SPACE ODYSSEY was how oddly unimaginative the social arrangements of the "future" are Like so much sf, it's just "what if our current societal norms/accents/arguments/tics, but in spaaaaaace???" I still love it tho
I had a lot of fun at The Odyssey and I wish it had followed through a little more on some of the darker, interesting ideas it kept dancing all around. Especially the framing with Calypso frustrated. Having no sense of their relationship when it was happy felt cowardly, and gave Theron nothing to do

Finally saw India Donaldson’s Good Girl, which I was very moved by. Reminded me of Never Rarely Sometimes Always which was also a quiet document of teenage girls complicated vulnerability and capability.
