An inked panel I personally love from the current project, "Otis and the Sylva Beast" written by @notsosuper.pub! And yes I'm gonna tidy those panel corners with some whiteout. 😅 Also thank you for looking at the pencils for this comic at the NCS mini-con this past Saturday!!

Inked artwork for the children's fantasy graphic novel "Otis and the Sylva Beast", written by Jacques Nyemb. This is panel 5 of page 13, and the edges of the surrounding panels are slightly visible.

It's nighttime in this panel. The main character Otis is falling asleep sitting on top of his sleeping bag next to a backpack; teacup in his hand and glasses slid down his nose. Otis wears sandals, black pants and a black hooded poncho with the hood up. He leans against a fallen tree, surrounded by the bioluminescent fungus-plants of Sylva. In front of him is a small campfire burned low, with a tea kettle heating on a trivet.

I’ve been binging “My Adventures With Superman” with the kids while we have HBO for a few more days and I didn’t expect to enjoy this Superman “anime” this much. Probably the best way to introduce the man of steel to the kids.

To be an effective ally my support does not grant me permission to center myself in spaces where already marginalized folk are trying to be heard. It’s better to silently listen, even take a few lumps, because my aim is for the people I claim to be allying with to know that I truly have their backs.

This photo encapsulates the Black experience in America to me. And those folks hiding their identities most likely are our doctors, police officers, teachers, “upstanding members of society.” The ones deserving of all the privileges owed to them… Anyways let’s watch how this get deflected as nothing

Gotta love that I’m in a country where I have a mental condition that requires meds, but because the way the US is I have to spend my days calling pharmacies because there’s a shortage of the meds I need to function. Which is doubly hard…cause I don’t have my meds. It’s been an exhausting month.

One thing that will always be consistent about me is that I refuse to be bitter and think the worst in people. I will point out flaws in systems, but I have no way of predicting or perceiving virtual growth in people, but I rock with folks who want to grow and am open to growing as well.

A painful/exhausting thing about figuring out that I’m neurodivergent so late in life is understanding why people misunderstand me, but not having the power to change folks’ misconceptions about the person they thought they knew. It’s especially difficult to handle with loved ones.

I completely understand the lore and what Backrooms was trying to do, but, for me, spending so much time in those liminal spaces made me sleepy in the movie theater. It felt like being at work or revisiting childhood memories in the most boring rooms. And the random background whispers annoyed me.

I don’t know about y’all, but I tune out of any conversation where someone starts telling me that a billionaire or very privileged person is “playing three dimensional chess.” It’s like the melatonin of conversations to me.

This year, lots of people have been asking at conventions if my work contains AI. Since folks like the free buttons and stickers I give away, I figured I’d make some that send a very clear message of where I stand when it comes to AI generated art.

Anti AI stickers I created.

MY YOUNGEST (on our way home from school): “I can’t wait to get home, take a warm bath, eat some dinner, then watch some Bob Ross painting while under a nice warm blanket.” I need her to teach me how to relax.

Speaking of conventions, at the one I went to Saturday, this scary looking pin was the kids’ favorite. Kids of all walks picked it out of everything I had, while mortified parents caved in. My oldest and I laughed each time. I made a mental note to make more large kid appropriate pins next time.
