Someone was saying, "... there's such a thing as 'South-Western Rock', but it's basically just two bands: the Eagles and America!" I said, "What about Sheryl Crow?" They said, "... she's more Los Angeles. But it's better than 'Midwestern Rock', which is just one artist: John 'Cougar' Mellencamp!"

Just when I thought it was safe to be bored ....
Chief Cat has come back to my desk, plopped himself on it, rested his head on my elbow, heaved a sigh, and began to purr. He hadn't had a nap next to me on the desk for a while, since I was gone for 2 one-week periods!
Bede's World! Bede's World! Party time! Venerable!
"We do not talk about helping people without first talking about who not to help." Resonant words.
it's not just that means testing unfairly gatekeeps care from people on the edges of the economic goldilocks zone. the logic ripples out through culture and influences how we talk about poverty, race, and disability. we do not talk about helping people without first talking about who not to help.
Senior Cat has claimed the new settee and is repelling Junior Cat, who wants to share it. I have not seen who starts the fight, because my back is to the settee, but every time I turn around, Junior Cat is wailing mournfully from the hallway, and Senior Cat is alone on the settee.
This is Loki, our Maine Coon and the cat of our hearts, and he went missing today. We have no idea how he got out, but he’s an elder, indoor cat, the whole region’s in an intense heat wave, and we’re really scared. I doubt I have any followers here in Martinez, CA, but if so, help? It’s SO hot
No aide today, but I'm leaving sometime between noon and 2pm. (Someone else is here and will handle the afternoon.) The hard and awkward parts of caretaking are mostly done for this shift. I'll be doing lunch, though.
Well. About 2h until bedtime, and we *do* have an aide. Not sure what to do with self. I'm staying until 5pm tomorrow (though I'd rather not) and handling things (though I'd rather not.) Will see what room there is for negotiation.
I guess what I'm pointing out is, functioning as a household A.I. and frontal lobe (cognitive load-bearing pillar) also results in social isolation, a sort of female epidemic we don't really hear about if only because women's Self-Help (huge industry!!) tells us to look for "glimmers" for happiness
EIGHT days a week? Well, yeah, in this economy!
SEVEN samurai? In this economy?
the cats: Meow!! My sister: look, guys, we already went through this like an hour ago!
So tired. It's actually been a leisurely day, but I'm near falling asleep.
I've never seen Michael J. Fox with facial hair before.
Hear hear! Well deserved!
Maybe it's been too long a time since I was scramblin' down in the street Now they got me used to that clean white linen And that fancy French cologne
Watched the latest season of "All Creatures Great and Small" w Mom. A new character was introduced, played by actor Gaia Wise, whose voice, with its warm cheerful plummy breeziness, reminded me greatly of Emma Thompson's. Turns out Wise is Thompson's daughter!

I am cooking this. Not too difficult to prep. Only really messy bit was skinning the chicken thighs. Maybe I should have thrown in some carrots, too?? www.tasteofhome.com/recipes/pan-...

The world is on fire, and in my tiny little fragment of it, I haven't been out of the house since early Sunday except to overwater some plants. And, oh blast, I was going to take a nap before helping with chicken prep at 4:30 and I don't have time now.
We have an aide this morning! With absolute sincerity I said, "Thank you, Lord!"
I have been monitoring my Mom's care. This is very tiring, not because she is in any way difficult, but because I have to stay continually alert & continually consult documents that might have changed. I am getting better at it, but it's still hard. And the PM aide may not come bc not feeling well.
I am going to bed. It is relatively early but possible.
This may require Douthat to leave the house, a thing I've always had the impression he avoids.
New York Times writer Ross Douthat named '60 Minutes' correspondent
Sometimes i fear that with enough time, everybody reverts to type. And a lot of time that seems to manifest as "I don't recognize what I knew in my youth in what I see now" and automatic categorization of that as a loss, not just to be mourned, but to be corrected.
Which means that he gets his 'news' from X A quick search of his posts there shows AI-generated photos and videos, made up quotes and other bs demonising Muslims and immigrants. He's reposting genocidal posts against people in the UK from a Caribbean island. These people have friend their brains.
Had a nice chat with my Mom's aide, who is always happy to see me and says so.
Had a headache (migraine?) all freakin' day. Imitrex and Tylenol and, for all I know, caffeine, helped.
This smacks a bit of They Rearranged My Grocery Store and I'm Not Having It, but it looks like you can no longer get Bob's Red Mill Rolled Oats in the 52 oz bag or NOW Foods Unflavored Liquid Chlorophyll in the 16 fl oz size, and this is disappointing.
Last re-post: now, if that ain't the truth!!
